Mackinaw City -- Tee Pee Campground
We reserved a site the night before and when we arrived, the woman at the desk said, "I have a nice site for you -- it just opened up and it helps that you have a small trailer." She was right -- it was nice -- we were practically on the beach -- a bit rocky but the temps were in the high eighties and I swam a few times each day and just wore my sandals.-- It was lovely to be so close.
Terry commented that he's not sure how we would have felt if we had been further back. The campers and tents were really packed in, many people had two cars per site and some of the popups seemed to be touching. The bath house was spacious and clean but overworked -- some of the toilets weren't working and there were always lots of people.
But for us was fun -- there's a small but nice playground on the beach, benches and some chaises and each night the owners started a fire in the firepit on the beach. It was kind of like being at a laid back beach party -- but not too loud to sleep.
Also, it is biking distance to the ferry to Mackinack Island and if you don't have bikes the free shuttle will come and get you.
