Nascar

Just wondering

Has anybody here camped at a Nascar event right at the track.
I need something different for next year, looks like fun.

Wondering about services like washrooms and hookups.

Been to Daytona, problem with the infield is most attendees have those behemoth motor homes or 5th wheels and all use generators to a point where some were getting sick from the fumes.

A gentleman I worked with and the his wife use to go to the races and camp in the infield or what ever you call it . They no longer go because of breathing problems from generator exhaust and smoke from the large pit smokers .

As side note , When I was growing up they referred to the racing circuit as AS_CAR on the local radio stations . I didn’t know it was NASCAR until I was in my late 30’s .

Years ago, my sister-in-law would borrow my Minnie Winnie motor home and camp right next to the Pocono Raceway. They could walk to the race track.

Hi: cpaharley2008... I can atest to the sickening feeling of gen sets. We go to a country music jamboree in Aug. with 1500 other RV's. While walking to the porta poo's I felt like I should have been home cutting the grass. That thought has new meaning for us Canadians staring down the Can. abyss... Alf

be careful if you have breathing problems, the day is the practices and the races, a lot of smell of gas and the evening. And the night (if it's hot) is the festival of the generator on the site of the campsite, a thick clouds of vapor gaz strolls over the site. and they are not honda (noise) at Loudon we were more than 20,000 vr

Unless you are a TRUE Nascar fanatic not sure you would like the experience because of how others have described it. Now what you might like is Atlanta Motor Speedway it has camping outside of the track itself, sites are open but not as close as a KOA, you are right there at the track. I know recently they opened it up for hurricane evacuees.

Safe and enjoyable travels to all,

Steve

Bristol TN/Va Motor Speedway has numerous campgrounds right around the track. Beautiful area, with lots to do. Book early. A nice campground not too far away (near airport exit) is Rocky Top Campground "Your quiet and relaxing adult campground".
Also, a KOA at same exit is not as nice.
Or, we have a spot about 30 minutes away in Roan Mountain TN, near NC state line, with power, water and septic you may use. Price for my neighbors to the north and fellow 17B owner is free.

We go to 2-3 races each year. This year, Daytona, Bristol and Darlington. The amenities vary greatly from track to track and among campgrounds at a given track. It just depends on what is important (and how much you want to spend).

One of the features that is important to us is being able to walk to the track. Sure beats fighting the traffic after the race.

Which track did you have in mind?

Races

I followed NASCAR for a few years but came back to my senses and returned to Super Modifieds at the Marion County fairgrounds, Knoxville, Iowa. Great camping nearby at Red
Rock COE, reasonably priced tickets, and 4 wheel drifts, 4 wide, where that heavy Iowa summer air is vaporized off the wing as they hit well over a humdred miles an hour on the half mile dirt track composed of that black Des Moines river bottom gumbo. Great museum adjacent to the track with tributes to the real greats of American open wheel racing. But that’s just me.

I used to camp at Laguna Seca for major race events, either on my motorcycle, or tent camping out of the van we had. haven't been back in quite a long time.
