National Parks

Slowly trying to reopen but it looks like it will be quite sometime before camping will return.

Some good news, The Pinnacles National Park is open to campers with online reservations. Normally you need to book six month ahead but now plenty of weekday spots are available. Driving down on Monday, under four hours drive

I'm reopening this thread. It's important, National Parks are in the planning stages of reopening.

As long as this thread stays non-political and no snipping at others it will stay open. Consider how you answer. Follow Effie's lead.

Is there a way to go from Santa Rosa to Pinnacles (or vice versa) without having to pay tolls? I went along the east side of the bay but got smacked with a $21 toll at the I-580 bridge. Ow!

Mike- those Bay Area Bridges are toll going north only, except the Golden Gate. So if you want to avoid tolls go north via Golden Gate then south on any other one.

Good to know, thanks. I knew the Golden Gate was toll-free going north, but I was reluctant to pull my trailer up 19th Avenue through town, though I think I've done it before. Good info on the other bridges.

bridges of the bay

We have done 19th Ave a number of times towing the trailer, not too bad. Also at the toll plaza of the GG going south with the trailer it turns out that they don't pick up my plate number on the trailer. The first time I called in soon after crossing to offer to pay and the lady said to not worry until they sent the notice and then pay, never had to pay and it happened several more times.

You were lucky because they picked up our 19 and was very upset in the cost and will avoid in the future at all costs ! Pat

Yes, toll on the bay bridge going north (on the golden gate going south)
A note on Pinnacles, the campground is open but the road leading to the parking lots inside the park are only open to bicycles or pedestrians, so bring a bike or you'll need to walk another six miles round trip to the trail heads

It is my fervent hope things get better and I can travel and camp without too much worry. I have reservations @ Crater Lake, T Roosevelt South unit, Badlands and RMNP. Due to it will be the middle to late September, no reservations for N Cascades and Glacier which will be part of my 7 week vacation.

Pat, maybe you need to go through the toll plaza a little quicker.

I hate paying tolls, even when I didn't tow a trailer. I keep my GPS set on no tolls, but since it doesn't have a settings of "no tolls except bridges", it once suggested an 850 mile route to get to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, a 250 mile drive from my house if you want to take one of the Niagara Falls toll bridges.
