North Coast of British Columbia
Hi
We have just returned from a 2 week trip to Hyder Alaska, Nisga'a country, Terrace, Prince Rupert and Kittimat, British Columbia. The main purpose was to photograph Grizzlies and we got what we wanted. Our blog displays some of the highlights.
Focused on Fauna (and a little flora)
We really enjoyed this excursion. If we were to do it again we would probably do it in the fall when the animals have their new coats and the tourists have thinned out.

I think you are the people we ran into, not literally, in the campground at the Lava Bed Prov. Park. If so, glad to have met you and also glad you enjoyed your visit to the north.

Great pictures..
We did part of that trip in the fall of 2014...We stayed at Meziaden Junction Campsite and really were lucky unseeing a couple young grizzlies enjoying the salmon in the creek just 2 km down from the campsite... The lava fields were neat to see.
BTW---the road over Pavillion Mountain is a neat one (frankly I hate going up the side from Kelly Lake--Clinton side--I really hate twisty tuning narrow roads but coming down the other side I can see enough ground I am okay!!)) The campsite at Kelly Lake (Downing Prov Park) has been re-done this year and is the best it has ever been..
We have 40 acres just up Jesmond Road off Kelly Lake Road) nice area and the drive up Jesmond to Big Bar is interesting and you can go on that road all the way around to Clinton..

That sure is nice country Anna-Marie, we had a cabin on Meadow lake and have travelled all through the area. Did you get up to the Jesmond lookout, beautiful view from up there.
Cheers

Cougar Point Lookout, Doug---yup--been down the road with my eyes half closed!!! (No I was not driving)
Once I was on firm ground then I could really enjoy the view--never did get down the hill except for walking a bit--we knew the Indian lady that lived near the bottom--she just passed a couple months ago..
Our property has a sign on it called "Chevalier Court" just a spitting distance from the corner...

We stayed at the Downing Campground at the end of June. We thought it must have been new as it was in great shape. Also, no one came around to collect the fee . We also went over the road towards Lilloett (without the trailer) where we found the first record of breeding Bobolinks on the Diamond S Ranch. The very nice ranch owner delayed haying the area until the young ones fledged. You are fortunate to have acreage in that area. On this trip we stayed one night at Big Bar. The road in tore the microwave off the shelf and gouged the floor. I just installed another microwave today.

I like the road over Pavilion plateau, beautiful country even if the road makes some people (like Wendy!) nervous.
Two summers ago we came from Kelly Lake to Pavilion on our way home from a family wedding in northern Alberta, pulling the Boler. About a kilometer in from the bottom of the road at the Kelly Lake end, some wag had posted an obviously home-made sign "Caution: active logging, watch for trucks". I was about 98% certain there really was no logging, but I was still a little apprehensive as I dragged the Boler up-and-over, because there is NO WAY to pass a big rig or to back up until you get up on the plateau and into the rangeland!
I agree the road north from Kelly Lake is a great way to head towards Williams Lake, good gravel road close to and with great views of the Fraser River canyon, up through Dog Creek and the Gang ranch country. Beats the highway, and is my kind of traveling!
