Ouch ….. when we were there in April 1968 we had just come north from the Gulf Coast on our honeymoon touring the southwest/south US for about 6 weeks . I didn't even have a passport , just my ID - Wolf still had his German passport back then . We had even been in Mexico - no problem back in those days !
these pictures a almost them same place 1968 and 2013 ….

That's it! That second picture of yours of the falls with the horse carriage... that's the very spot where I wanted to go, to get a picture of me and my then new (used) trailer with the falls in the background. Back in 1956, I think it was, I had been right there, on a trip with my dad.
Now, on the American side of course you cannot get anywhere near the American falls with your car because they built this big park shielding the road from the cliffs. Determined to get my picture but forgetting the new rules with passports, thinking it was 1956 I guess, I didn't realize my big mistake until I saw the sign to get out your passports. When that young, hot Canadian policewoman asked for my passport I handed her my NJ drivers license. Wow did she go nuclear!

In Washington we can now get an enhanced driver's license that meets the passport requirement for Canada and Mexico. It is nice to cross the border without a "nu clear" response.

Maybe one day, we on the "West Coast" should think about forming a convoy to visit our "East Coast" Escape cousins.

Most of those are in Ontario. Northern Ontario goes on forever (at least as judged from behind the wheel on the winding two-lane roads).
I have no idea if this was the actual route for this part of the trip, but here's a map from Google with some of the places shown:

That's the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), described in web pages from federal border agencies in Canada and the United States.
It looks like you can get an Enhanced Driver's License in the provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba, and the states of Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington. Not yet here in Alberta, where we border directly on the U.S. (Montana), but most people don't live within a quick shopping trip distance of the border.

After the Niagara Wine escape we drove through New York State to avoid another drive through Toronto… driving through Montreal was pretty easy , very good signage . Quebec City signage was not as good , there is construction everywhere traffic was …um ??… it doesn't move !!!
Ogdensburg NewYork State…
Driving through Montreal…..
Quebec City streets - view to the St. Lawrence and the other is to the Old Town area ….

We parked at the KOA in Levis , on the south/east side of the St.Lawrence . Not a very quiet rv park ( traffic noise is always there ) , but a very convenient location , and the facilities are very good . They do offer a lot of info on tours . However , we would highly recommend driving to the Levis ferry terminal - park ( possibly $5. for the day - there are several options ) walk onto the ferry and walk off at the bottom of Old Town Quebec . I think it was about $3.50 each . Beautiful views from the ferry , all parts of Old Town are easily accessible …. it's about 15-20 minutes .
Quebec Parliament Building …
Plains of Abraham ….
ferry terminal at the bottom entry to Old Town…
going over to Old Town Quebec on the ferry ….

Back in July, 1969 my wife and I... one year married, moved from Edmonton to Toronto. Looking at all these pictures of Niagara, reminded me of our time there. Every time we had visitors from Western Canada and we would ask them what they would like to see... without an exception... it was the "Falls". I became a tour guide, including taking visitors through the tunnel under the Falls.
However, what I remember best was this chance in a life time to witness the results of mankind versus nature...

Hi: Stargeezer... I prefer a dry Niagara from Reif Estate Winery. Their 2012 Pinot Grigio is exceptional with Turkey. Alf
