Padawan’s Journey 6

Well it’s getting postponed for a year or two depending……. My dad died while we were in Iceland in July, and mom has been in and out of the hospital and ICU. She is now on a semi long term hospice. I’m trying to figure out bills, banks, and other assorted things in Texas. Also, Barb is having what we hope will remain minor medical issues that will not allow her to travel when we are supposed to be leaving. So we are trying to figure out shorter trips for the rest of 2024. I’ll keep the plans and put the trip back together when feasible. It was to be 75 days or so going to see my parents in Texas via New York from Kansas. Arkansas in the fall may have to do this year so we can stay close to Texas.

So sorry the hear about your father. We'll keep your mom and Barb in our prayers.

It’s obviously not been the best month, but Barb and I are doing well, and mom is doing better than I expected.

A lot of guys I have talked with over the years, have had regrets about not having enough time or doing things with dad. I was able to do those things. We’ve travelled extensively, built all kinds of things together including their last two houses, climbed mountains, hiked rim to rim in the Grand Canyon etc. the last two projects we did were a very nice gazebo for Barb and my domed observatory.

I’ll miss my best friend next to my wife, but I retired very early and we had lots of fun together. Time has always been worth more to me than money. I have no regrets looking back on my relationship with dad.

He was a God fearing man who lived out Jesus for me by example. I am thankful for that. He is out of pain, and in the presence of God.

We leave on the revised version of Padawan’s Journey 6 in a week or so. Mom is doing well enough we think we can go. We are going on a much shorter trip of just over a month to mostly southern Missouri and parts of Arkansas. Truck and trailer are basically ready, but I’ll look them over next week. My birthday today allowed me to get my geezer pass, so now we each have one for federal places. Once we get back, we will vote and then head to mom’s for a bit. If anything comes up, we will be closer to mom by heading south.

We were planning to leave today. Barb fell Saturday and is fine, but very sore. She has gotten much better, so we hope to leave on Wednesday or Friday if she still can’t go sooner. Either of our second or third planned stops are still only a day from home.

When my wife fell a few years ago we nicknamed her 'Stumblina".

Get well soon Barb! Adventure awaits.

Well Barb is still really hurting. The doc put her on increased meds, and we aren’t going anywhere except back to the doc next week. So fall trip and revised fall trip have now both been cancelled. We’ll see what the future holds. Someday, journey six can happen we hope.
