So for now my Escape will stay safely in my pole barn and I will get on with hoarding toilet paper .
Yeah, I've been wondering how, if shutdown is successful, the virus will infect enough people for immunity that the pandemic will stop. Wuhan infection rate has really slowed- but nowhere near the numbers recovered that you need to block transmission due to herd immunity. But there is also the hope they'll find better treatments or manage somehow to fast-track vaccines- existing ones repurposed have the best hope for that. That's how they do flu vaccines so fast. Also that as people start to experience the disease and see people get very sick they'll understand social distancing and draconian measures could be lightened a little.

Good points. It’s “flattening the curve” and finding that critical turning point to save lives while a vaccine is being developed. This will also take pressure off of the hospitals/healthcare system.

Like some others have noted, more shut-downs and isolation modes may be implemented.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear some major announcements and changes by tomorrow! This is such a fluid situation, with more knowledge coming to light on a daily basis.
Hence, back to my original post...just wondered what plans people were making or changing with all of this in mind.
More ideas and heads are better than one!

I understand peoples desires and concerns about picking up their new Escape trailer
They have made a size able investment in time & money and are anxious to put it to good use BUT if travel restrictions are imposed and campgrounds both Fed , State , Provincial and private are closed , it may become a mute point
Having a travel trailer with no place to go is no better then not having a travel trailer unless one is content to camp in their driveway .
Everyone is at the mercy of a force we cannot control at this point
I hope this is short lived and our lives can soon return to normal but for now we need to put things in perspective .
You may not get your Escape on the planned date but eventually you will take possession
Waiting a while longer will only add to the anticipation

If it were me and my trailer was completed, I'd be enroute now for pickup, particularly those within a day or two drive. I fear that by the end of the week there will perhaps be changes such as a national curfew similar to what NY/NJ/Connecticut are doing now.

Barring all out travel restrictions which is unlikely if one can take possession of their trailer they could plan to make a direct line for home. There are private places you could probably still find on Boondockers Welcome and there are always truck stops, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, Casinos, etc. I'm just making the point that one doesn't necessarily need campgrounds to get a trailer home from the factory.

Our pickup date is May 7th. From Karl’s email this morning it looks like orientation will all be video with nearly no one on one. If by then they are open at all. Given virus condition and likely politics, it would not surprise me for a second if border closed in at least Washington. We have resv to stay at NAS Whidbey on the way out. Also have res to go back for rally. Not going to cancel anything yet but have telephone numbers handy. I’m guessing ETI will hold/store trailers for additional period of time. Where will they put them all? Are they continuing to work and take orders? Pretty unbelievable situation. Details at eleven.

Yes, that’s what I had considered as well.
Except for the fact that the situations are changing daily! I’m at least a 3- day’s drive to ETI.
- My concerns are that en route, businesses, stores, gas, hotels, camping areas, and even borders will close!
We’d be stuck...
I don’t mind waiting, for my and others’ safety. It’s just that I’m trying to figure out what to do in light of the changing situation, and wanted to solicit ideas from others picking up their new Escapes.
Again, I think we’re in for some major announcements tomorrow. We’ll see what that is...

LoL!

Steve, you’re spot on! Not getting what you want, when you want it, certainly increases the desire and anticipation!

Our new Escape will be all that more treasured once we do get it!

When we picked up our E21 last year, we left Pennsylvania and spent the first night in Wisconsin Dells, 2nd night in Bismarck, ND. When we went to stop in Missoula,Montana, we found out our Motel 6 $39/night room was now $139 since it was a weekend Friday night, I punched in the eta for Bellingham which was another 10 hours and continued until we stopped at a Walmart north of Seattle for some sleep. Was in Chilliwack when Escape opened their doors next morning. My point being your adrenaline gets going and you may make it sooner that 3 days.

I appreciate your experience and suggestions. We’ll take another look at the map and see if we could manage that trip in shorter time.
The travel issues I struggle with pertain to the physical changes and ramifications from Muscular Dystrophy. Sitting for just an hour or two is like sitting on hot coals, with pins and needles. Very painful.
Basically, I’m just sitting on highly-innervated bones, contracted thin muscles, and atrophic, stretched ligaments. Air or foam pads help to a point. We make frequent stops, in order to alleviate the pain and stretch our legs, which usually add much more time to our trips.
Sigh...there’s always something to deal with, isn’t there?

Thank you, however. You’re always so helpful and kind!

Given that the two worst hit states border Canada at least those borders should be closed in my opinion to everything other than commercial goods. Not good for those wanting to pick up trailers I know and I feel for you but even if you have the trailer you may be severely limited to where and when you can camp anyway the way things are going.

To put Washington States outbreak in perspective the state has a population of approx. 4.5 million, Japan has a population of 126 million and they both have about the same amount of cases. Having been to Japan I can tell you the population density is mind boggling and the vast majority of the Japanese live in very crowded cities and use basically nothing but public transport so are living in prime conditions for transmitting any virus.

It maybe best to wait it out until the panic has subsided.

Our pickup date is April 1, Escape sent me an e-mail last night to inform me that they are operating as normal but taking precautions about contact. They also indicated that they are allowing people to change their pickup date without a charge with a 7 day notice. They also indicated they will do deliveries across the border as long as commercial traffic is allowed.
We are watching things closely but will decide next week what we will do.

Just heard on the news.
Trudeau has urged Canadians to “come home“. It looks like he’s going to close the southern Canadian border!

It looks like the decision has been made for us.

I wonder if Escape will continue to import to Sumas for pickup? You can handle everything else via mail/email before hand?

Barry, BTW, I just took a brief look at your photography website.

Let me say that I am in awe!!! Your subject matter, compositions, color, mood, along with a variety of other artistic perspectives are sublime!

Your photographs are quite impressive. I’m going to delve into them further, after I finish a painting commission of my own.

At the very least, perusing through your portfolio will be a calming diversion!

Border is not closed to US citizens, yet.

“Trudeau said the restrictions come into effect March 18, but that exceptions will be made for air crews, diplomats, immediate family members and U.S. citizens.”

There’s a strong possibility this will change, as the “southern border may be closed.”

It sounds like this may interfere with those of us wanting to pick up our Escapes.

CPA, do you know if ETI is working on some alternative plan to get the trailers across the border, “in case”? Such as, delivery to Sumas?

Or, it’s just the way it is, and that we stay put and wait it out?
