Question PNW scenic beach on Vancouver Island?

Hi all

Last year we stayed at La Push WA and we all loved the rocky, dramatic beach.

I am hoping there are some similar rocky beautiful beaches on Vancouver Island?

Don't need to camp on or near it.... for this trip we'll be in hotel / B&B / similar.

Bonus points for being 4 hours drive - or less - from Victoria.

Must be actually on Vancouver Island... not a ferry ride away.

and... any scenic destinations (other than a beach) 7 hours or less drive from Victoria?

thanks.

Don't have a lot of time to respond, as am heading out myself in a couple of days. Two quick suggestions.
1. Check out Point no Point Resort Point No Point Resort private cabin rentals near Sooke, BC. A little more than a 1 hr drive from Victoria. Would make a great staging place to explore out Port Renfrew way. There, you'll want to hike down to Botanical Beach.
2. Tofino/Ucluelet are two villages near to Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park, about a 5 hr drive from Victoria. Not so much of a beach but there's a really cool trail to crashing waves on rocks called the Wild Pacific Trail that starts/ends at the Amphitrite lighthouse just out of Ucluelet. Depending on time of year, you can run into significant fall rain or summer fog, take your pick.

Many years ago (30?) we did a day trip out of Victoria to a spot up the west coast of the island called Botanical Beach. Looking at a map, I see they've made a provincial park out of it. No idea what it's like now, but back in the day it was a gorgeous rocky beach.

John,

At the end of April, while on Vancouver Island, I took an afternoon trip from the Nanoose Bay area up to Cathedral Grove, near Cameron Lake, in MacMillan Provincial Park. Quite amazing. We also stopped in Coombs which was reminiscent of a modern hippie town. Very interesting place, and a bit nostalgic.

The drive from Victoria up to Nanoose bay did not take me that long, but I have no idea of what summer traffic might be. You could always check Google Maps to see some drive times. And if you have the time, Parksville and Qualicum Beach are nice towns on the Strait of Georgia.

Our absolute favourite camping, beaches and much more (art galleries; restaurants, etc) on Vancouver Island is the Ucluelet-Tofino area. The beaches tend to be more sandy than rocky and there are great walks both on beaches and forest boardwalks. The Pacific Rim Trail offers spectacular views of the Broken Islands on a 1 hr walk. Schooner Cove is another must do hike. Watching surfers on Long Beach and swimming there yourself is fun (though the water is a bit cold). However good luck trying to find a campsite without booking months in advance.
