I am sure that many are aware of this road closure but, we were not, and it involved a fairly lengthy detour on our part that almost disrupted our schedule.
On our recent July 2014 holiday through the US, we planned on spending some time at North Rim of the Grand Canyon before heading over to Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. We planned a stop in Page, Arizona to see the Antelope Canyons.
Original plan was to take Hwy 67 and then US89A from North Rim of Grand Canyon through Lees Ferry to Bitter Springs, and then up on US89 to Page. As it turns out, US89 near Page has been closed since 2013 due to a landslide and is not expected to open for some time. This was not known to us until we got to the US89 and found it closed. We ended up having to take a long detour south on US89 and then back up north on US89T. We ended up getting to our Antelope Canyon tour on time, but it was close. Here is a map of the closed section of road and the detours.
