Skagit Tulip Festival

Our new Escape 19 is due to be completed in two weeks. Thanks to the wonderful folks at ETI, they'll store it for us, of course, until we can retrieve it around April 1.

That time happens to coincide with the Skagit Tulip Festival, around Mt. Vernon, WA. We've never traveled there before and wondered if anyone had recommendations regarding camping spots. If the weather's nice and the tulips in bloom, we'd even stay a few days becoming familiar with our new Escape.

Recommendations from any Washingtonians?

Klaus & Karen

Depends on how many days you want to stay in the area. There's lot's of options. Whidbey Island is close by, several options there and larger options for going down island or even across to Port Townsend. And the bonus is the Camping World nearby for anything you need for your shiny new trailer.

We were thinking about making Bay View State Park our base for the tulip fields this year.

Bay View is the closest state park and one can reserve year round:

And campsite #4 is the best one followed by #3 if you like water views.

Another option would be the Thousand Trails operation near La Conner - La Conner RV & Camping Resort. I grew up in the middle of the tulip operations and I'm very glad that I left the valley before they started the Tulip Festival. I was there last year near the end of the tulips and the traffic was still insane. The flowers are beautiful and the whole world seems to come to see.

IMHO, I'd check out Anacortes and Deception Pass/Whidbey Island while you're in the area.

To all,

These were great suggestions! We now have reservations at the Bay View State Park and are looking forward to doing our shakedown cruise with our new Escape there, at least in part.

Now, we'll look for the wineries....

Poor timing on our part: we'll be there on 3/30 and after, coinciding with Spring Break here in Montana. Would've been nice to meet you face-to-face since you're one of the major contributors to the Forum.

Karen, you are more than welcome. If you're in the area, feel free to stop by for coffee.

Karen,

We'd be absolutely delighted to show you our new "Escape Goats" and share a glass or wine.

Back in about 1995 or so, I owned a 1946 BC-12D Taylorcraft that was hangared in Arlington. I used to fly up to the Tulip fields and look at them from the air. They were wonderful to look at from above, but it didn't take long to figure out there were nearly as many airplane's in the air as car's on the ground! It sure is pretty up there on a sunny day and well woth the visit. Bob.
