Storing for a couple of days on road
Does anyone have experience in finding a place to leave a trailer parked for a few days so you can do side trips such as backpacking while on the road? We are planning on bringing backpacks with as we travel around the states.

Are campgrounds not an option?

I am sure they are. Just wondering if anyone on this site does backpacking while on the road and what they find.

I would never leave my Escape, alone for a period of time, outside of a campground. You may come back and be disappointed. Very easy to hitch up and take.

I recently left my camper at a campground I where I had been staying. I was going to be coming back through the area in two weeks. It saved me a lot of gas money to unhitch the camper and drive just the truck home. The campground had a storage area and all I had to do was move the camper to that area. The fee was about $5 a day. I don't know if this applies to your situation but you might check with the local campgrounds to see what they offer.

This sort of storage provision is certainly worth checking for. It may be hard to find, though, as a storage lot at a campground is often intended for and limited to extra vehicles belonging to people who are occupying one of the regular sites.

I would expect that private campgrounds are much more likely to be able to provide this service than public campgrounds.

I left my trailer at a storage facility in the bay area (very few campgrounds) for a couple weeks in October to avoid having to come home in between trips while i was visiting my daughter...I checked it out in advance, they have video cameras and a guard at night when closed. I had to pay for a month, but it was worth it to me. I also checked with my insurance, it was covered.
