Surprise! NM BLM Gorge campgrounds open.

Have been intending to post this sooner- we did a drive up the Rio Grande Gorge from Pilar NM and much to our surprise, we found the BLM campgrounds in the Gorge were all open, all the way to the Taos Junction bridge. Talked to a camp host who said they were reopened Septemer 1st. No public announcement that we saw, they just reopened them quietly. New Mexico State Parks are still closed to overnight camping. Restaurants, hotels are open with limits in NM but campgrounds still closed. Sure glad I bought an utterly useless NM resident annual pass before covid hit. Duhh. We also drove past the COE Abiquiu Lake campground and it was still closed as of a week or two ago.

We passed someone towing an escape on Sunday afternoon in that area, and we were towing ours heading south. Were the gorge campgrounds busy? We spent the weekend at Columbine and the Red River area was pretty packed.

There was no one camped at the Taos Bridge campground except the camp host! There were spots available in the other 3 campgrounds also as you head up the Gorge towards Taos Juntion as well. We were really surprised as we were there on Labor Day but figured others besides us had not heard that the BLM campgrounds had reopened. The camp host did say it was likely the campgrounds would close in early October for the Winter as is their habit in previous years.
