Trip planning: gold butte monument Alabama hills

Leaving shortly for a little adventure. Anyone been to either destination in the last few days? Reports? I think rain is forecast for gold butte in the next 2 weeks. Also any info on getting campsites at valley of fire? Really just asking for recent reports for gold butte, valley of fire, Texas springs/Death Valley & Alabama hills. Thanks much.

Stir crazy in Boise!

Alabama Hills is our number one all time favorite dry camping spot. We were there in early April of 2019 and met a lady in a bar in Lone Pine who suggested we drive south to Lancaster, CA. She said they were having a "poppy super bloom" year. We did it, and it is spectacular!
If you are in the area and the timing is right, it's worth it. The weather this winter is such that another super bloom is predicted.

Was just in the Alabama Hills last year. Camping is now restricted to designated areas, and the two BLM campgrounds within them. Just finding a spot to your liking and setting up camp is no longer allowed, due to the abuse the area has seen over the past few years. Trash, feces, toilet paper, graffiti, etc. It's still a beautiful area and well worth the trip. Be sure and visit the movie museum in Lone Pine.

Hi Julie. This has been a crazy cold winter in the desert (California and Arizona). with the bad weather continuing through this weekend and next week. We are giving up and trying to head home but snow is forecast over all the passes. Hopefully the bad weather will soon be over and we will have fabulous weather to compensate?? Who knows!

Visited Gold Butte 2 days ago. Rough road to Whitney Pocket as usual, other roads good. Light rain shouldn’t cause too many problems as most roads sand and gravel.
