Trip through Ontario

Looking for suggestions on boon docking sites in Ontario. Looking at traveling from Minnesota to Maine through Canada going over Lake Superior. Any goods sites to see also welcome.

Ontario has or at least they did have restrictions on non residents camping on crown land
( Provincial / Private campgrounds are the exception )
We were cooking shore lunch one day on an Island in an Ontario lake when a plane flew over , landed and the authorities checked to make sure we were not camping on Crown land
We no longer fish / camp in Ontario , and have taken our business to Manitoba

The only place I've boondocked via auto transport is Gargantua Harbour on the east shore of Lake Superior, south of Wawa, Ont. That was NOT with a trailer, just tenting. A rugged, undeveloped, seasonal road for 10 miles. Not recommended or likely possible with a trailer. In the past, with payment and registration, we camped on Crown Land in the Slate Islands, arriving via kayak. Back then, we paid up at the local RCMP. I would think trailer boondocking would be more than problematic. There are plenty of provincial and even a national park along the shores of Lake Superior. They do get busy and crowded in the summer, FYI, like everywhere else.

I have camped all over Ontario but always in Provincial Parks. There aren't to many boondocking opportunities unless really far north.

Our favorite parks are Lake Superior, Killbear, Algonquin and The Pinery. You'll have to book far ahead.

If you are crossing to Ontario at the Sault I recommend a stop at Bruce Mines, small town easy stroll to pickup anything or exercise, municipal campground is in town,

We found the camping in Ontario very expensive...about $50 Can a night private or provincial.

If you want to keep the price down and see the area with the camping spot not a priority...try camping in casino friendly locations. Good security and maybe even a good buffet inside...just don’t expect to leave your trailer in the lot unhooked.

I don’t like Casinos. Dangerous wildlife abounds (Cougars) and too many hoochies who can’t take their eyes off me. And food prepared to stop my heart.
I have camped in a few provincial parks and always had a pretty good experience. Especially at the Pinery and at Algonquin Provincial park. At Elora Gorge we decided to have a campfire. We bought a bag of wood, sight unseen, from the gate attendant. The young man asked me if I needed help loading it. I thanked him and said I could get it, after all it was only $8.00 worth of wood. Going around the building corner I was met by a pile of neatly stacked mesh bags of firewood. They were very uniform and all weighed about 80 pounds each or should I say 36 kilograms. I got it loaded but could have used some help. Firewood anecdote by:

The ferry from Manitoulin across Lake Huron is great but the suggestion after to go through Algonquin Park is off, it would be well out of the way to do that from the Bruce Peninsula where the ferry docks in southern ON.

Yes ON parks are expensive. I just booked four nights at $38 per (no power) at a provincial park for a small family get together. However if you're doing the north shore of Superior you must stop at Rainbow Falls provincial park but not at the main campground but the waterfront one just east of Rossport.

I also second Agawa Bay in lake Superior provincial park, we used to stay there often on trips to southern ON. except now we tend to go that way through the US (since we live on the border and it's much cheaper gas, food, and camping fees). But if you've never seen the north shore you have to do it at least once. You are beside the lake much more than the southern route through the UP.

I'm assuming you mean sights not sites, as I cannot recommend any particular campsites

You must stop in Thunder Bay and see Old Fort William

If staying in Thunder Bay try the city campsite at Trowbridge Falls.

I love a buffet...which many Casinos have. I rather spend my money on that and camp for free. Win win after a long day of exploring the area.
