Valley of Fire State Park

We are planning to visit Valley of Fire SP in Nevada in April. I've never been there and am looking for tips/advice from those of you who have camped there or are familiar with it.

I know both campgrounds are first come / no reservations and are very popular so I plan to boondock on BLM land just outside the park the night before so we will be able to arrive in the park first thing the next morning and have a better shot at getting a site.

From what I've seen both campgrounds look nice, the one without hookups (Arch Rock) looks a little more scenic and spread out than the one with hookups (Atlatl Rock). Would love to hear your impressions of both campgrounds.

Love this park. There are plenty of unserviced sites at atlatl cg. 2nd cg is totally unserviced. The entry area into 2nd cg has quite a few spots but higher up the sites are small. I have camped in both. You will have desert bighorns right in your camp which ever you choose. So much to do & see. Will be there end of month. Plan to purchase a NV states park pass as will use it up at several state parks on the way south. $250.

A great place to go. We were there about 4 nights. Lots of things to do and see in the area. Really interesting and beautiful stuff.

We camped at the campground and found it very nice, good amenities and great sites. Lots of interesting things to see right there. We did not use the hookups, those are actually the least desirable sites anyway. The only negative is you will find that some people use gensets there, and one camper used his WAY too. We were sitting around the fire and when it finally shut off the four of us cheered along with many other campers.

Campsite #1 was where we stayed all but the first night.

I have a bunch of great photos from the area.

FOV has two campground; Arch Rock and Atlatl. The sites are a little smaller at Arch Rock with only vault toilets and if you rely on solar, the surrounding rock formations may limit how long you'll capture light. Atlatl, as others have said, has two sections and like others, I prefer the west side without the hookups. Most of the sites will also accommodate larger trailers and a TV. Both sides of that campground have flush toilets and showers.
The one think I don't like about the campground and is also true of many campgrounds is the number of sightseers that drive through. It's a problem because the road is unpaved and dusty. Even many of the campers drive too fast. Having said that, it's one of my favorite campgrounds and a fascinating park. The Astec (Navajo) Sandstone is spectacular particularly in the White Domes area

Nice to know about this place, I'll have to add it to my mental list of places I want to visit. Ideally in March, or mid-Oct. to mid-Nov., to try and hit the nicer temperatures.

Valley of fires

Hello David!!!

We love valley of fires we stayed at unserviced site in 2020 and loved it
Love the park so much to see and do right from the road
We are headed there this month
Has anyone been there in the past few weeks

It is sounding as discovered as arches and wondering if we need to plan to disperse camp in our 5.0

In 2020 Jan we got a site easily at end of day

Thsnks!
