West coast trip report

Here is something to pass the time while you are socially distancing at home. It is a draft travelogue of my recent trip that was curtailed by the pandemic. It is a downloadable PDF:

Mike, Nice recap! Sorry you had to rush home. We took a parallel trip home from Tucson about two weeks before you. Joshua Tree, Alabama Hills, Reno, the over to the Humbolt Redwoods and up the Oregon coast to our home in Washington.

I like the PDF book format! I’ll need to look into that.

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing, it's a long drive but I hope you'll take it again, and next time you're in Santa Rosa consider yourself invited for a drink.

Thanks. Yeah, I'll be back; I love California. I did have a bad experience in Santa Rosa, though: I got a parking ticket! I parked at the visitors center, went inside for twenty minutes at most, then returned to see the $35 ticket on my windshield. I had not noticed the (tiny) warning sign on the parking lot when I pulled in, and it just didn't cross my mind that a visitors center would have paid parking. Oh well.

Enjoyed the travelogue, Mike. Wish you could have done more, but good decision to head home for now.

We thoroughly enjoyed your trip report, Mike! Thank you so much for sharing. You pegged some of our favorite spots/campgrounds in CA. So sorry it was cut short... But impressed at all that you were able to see and do. So thankful for those, like you, who so cleverly share their journeys with us...especially now. Take care, Bea

While stationed in San Francisco in late 60's at the Alameda NAS, I routinely acquired parking tickets and never paid them. with computers these days they may be able to find you....

Good to see someone do the smart thing and head home, I think there is probably a lot out there still traveling who don't need to be.

We went to Woodhead Park after reading your prior travelouge on the eclipse, it's gorgeous, we'd planned to return again this spring, but .......

Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't get to visit Woodhead this spring. I was there before in July and August, when the heat was brutal, but I bet it's nice in April. Early March would have probably been too early. I was surprised that Idaho Power closed Woodhead as early as it did. That was the hint to me to head home. Maybe next year.

We went at the beginning of October last year, when we got there the place was empty. Went to check in at the host site as we had no reservations and the host, Denis, said they were closed because they were working on the sewer and there was no sewer service. I said, "Hey I don't need sewer, heck I don't even need any water and elec." to which he replied, "Well go out and choose a site". We had a gorgeous site overlooking the water. When Denis came around to see how we were doing I ask to pay and he said, "Enjoy yourself, it's free!". So we ended up with a great site overlooking the water with elec. and water for free. Over the next few days we got to know Denis quite well when he came around each night, we promised to come back in the spring as he said he hosts all spring, summer and fall but it was not to be. Maybe next year!
