Traveled over the Oregon passes yesterday heading south down I 5. Roads were clear however today they are under a winter storm watch.

Arrived in Bakersfield. Made it through the Oregon mountain passes just prior to the winter storm warning. Overall conditions were cool but pleasant. No snow on the roads.

Knowing the history of the Donner Party disaster, that image of snowed-in vehicles takes on a bit of added significance! Glad this bunch would not have to wait so long.

It should be dry enough to go for a bike ride here along the west side foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains this afternoon, although it will be a little cold.

Really curious to see what Lake Shasta looks like now - it was so empty last time we drove past it.

Yes, it was heartbreaking to see Lake Shasta so empty last year. Looks much better now according to this article.

Thanks for the photos. That is truly encouraging. For years we've watched the level drop and drop. I didn't really think that it would ever reach high levels again.

Too bad that the ground water can't recover the same way.

Yep. Been camped near Blythe CA since the beginning of February. Way cooler and windy this year. Several high wind days spent inside the trailer. Lots of reading this year.

Heading home in four or five days so have been watching the weather. Looks like a short calm spell with warm temps to get me north safely.

Of course I'm heading back just as the temps hit the 80's and 60's at night. Go figure. 🤔

BLOOOSH! Even more than that is expected in the local mountains. Here in Santa Cruz, the rain is upposed to start about 11am Thursday morning, and get really heavy off and on for the next several days after that.
