Westcoast Weather

Making our annual trek from Victoria to Oregon, California and Arizona. Currently in Oregon where there are winter weather advisories. Conditions on I 5 are generally okay with limited snow and pockets of heavy sleet. Watching mountain pass conditions closely. Cold at night however with temperatures at or below freezing. Looks like I will leave the water system winterized until California. Furnace working great. Safe Travels.

Make sure you really check out the weather in California. There is heavy rain and snow in places that are usually mild this time of year.

Good advise seems to be a bit better in California at weeks end. Woke up to a heavy wet snow here this morning in Oregon.

The weather here in the Bay Area is better starting tomorrow, and then a milder storm coming this weekend. Time your drive appropriately.

We saw news footage of a few RVs (including a big Class “A”) that slid down from an RV park into a river near Santa Clarita, CA when an embankment was washed out by heavy rain. Yikes!

I used to live there. Usually that riverbed is 40 yds wide with a trickle of water in the middle. But it can swell to a raging river at times.

Not so wet in Vancouver today. Here is picture from today that someone took. We hardly have any snow in Kelowna.

When you get into CA, you can call 1(800)427-7623 any time for current highway conditions directly from the CA Department of Transportation (Cal-Trans). The number is easy to remember as 1(800)GAS-ROAD. The automated system will ask you to put in the roads you want information for and will provide current conditions.

It's currently popular to complain about CA, but the road condition update system works very well.

Every state I know of has a website and phone for road conditions. When winter weather hits, I often hit the web on the phone. They are not all equal. For example, it seems KY clears roads better than TN. Counterintuitive to go N for better roads, but it has worked that way before.

So far so good

In Canyonville Oregon tonight and tomorrow night. Weather beautiful coming down I 5. Very cold here tonight. At or just below freezing. Snow in the higher elevations. Roads are good.

Today was a gorgeous sunny day on the central coast (Santa Cruz), high was 56F, but more rain is on the schedule for this weekend.

Since November 3rd, this has been the coldest & wettest fall/winter seasons in Northern Nevada (Carson City) in at least 20-years. And it just keeps coming at us. Hwy 395 between Bridgeport & Mammoth areas has been closed more times than I can count. Ditto Donner Pass and Hwy 395 to the north of Reno.

I'm over it . It doesn't help...my old knees can't take tele'n any more. Otherwise I'd be schushing instead of complaining .

The entire west coast and west-interior has had a wild weather ride too!

Mammoth has had 40 ft (I think over season) at the ski lift elevation level.

I had three inches of snow at sunrise this morning in Tucson, Arizona. Tucson, mind you. It was gone by ten.

I assume that's Orange Grove RV park. Be sure to pick some oranges. Those are the sweetest, juiciest, most flavorful oranges I have ever had. And don't worry if they are blemished - they are still good!
