Our Thanksgiving weekend at Pacheedaht First Nation campground. Saturday it started raining about 15 minutes after we'd set up. Sunday it rained hard all day. Monday we woke up with the sound of the surf, clear skies and a warming day. But a wonderful way to spend the last (for most) weekend of camping here on the wet coast.

Not quite the back window, but the view along the Genesee River within Letchworth State Park here in NY. More photos at my website.

Great shots. Been to Letchworth State Park in the Scamp many many moons ago. Wish I could find those slides.

Gorgeous! I love that you've listed campgrounds for each of your trips! Hadn't noticed that before, and it will be quite useful when planning next spring's trip... assuming I can actually get out there! Thanks!

I went back the next day & photographed my favorite of the three main waterfalls - Lower Falls. Only problem is the 127 steps to climb to get back up!

On the campgrounds, when someone asks about one, I use the Google search window on my home page to find ones I've visited. There are so many I don't remember them all.

How is everyone traveling? I was under the impression that some states are closed at the borders to prevent the spread? We are waiting for the all clear signal, so to speak.

It varies state by state. We are heading out to Big Bend NP for a week on Monday, campground is still open for reservations only. Luckily we don't have to cross any state borders to get there. The way things are going, though, it wouldn't surprise me to get more closings this winter, not expecting anything resembling an all clear signal until well into next year.

I think we will be safer camping and hiking in remote areas than staying home and going to the grocery store.

Jim From South Carolina to Utah no issues. I saw some people wearing masks and many not. The only problem I have encountered is fast food is drive thru only. Being I'm not much into fast food that wasn't much of a problem. Practically all of the rest stops were open but visitor centers are not manned. Moab was my fifth trip in the last six months.

I camped at the shore in Sonoma county in October (Bodega) and November (Timber Cove). One campground has 18 spaces and the most that were filled were 8 or 9. Some nights only 3. In town everyone wears masks and the food service areas are set up with outside seating. Neither of these campgrounds takes walk ons...you have to have reservations, available at latest the day before. I have been in San Diego twice for extended stays--much less mask compliance. Luckily the trailer means I only have to stop once or twice, for gas, and I have my own facilities. And bleach wipes.

David is right...my town is pretty, um, conservative and there is likely about 50% mask compliance. I order groceries and they deliver to my car in the parking lot. Been to CVS a couple times. I'm safer camping.

Will you be set up at the Chisos Basin Campground? What are the *average* night time and day time temperatures this time of year?

Yes, we will be in our favorite site #18 at Chisos Basin. According to the BBNP website the average high/low temps in December are 63 / 39, but it is usually a little colder up in the basin area. It can vary quite a bit, though, we've left early on previous trips because of winter storms coming in that would make the access road treacherous. So far the forecast for next week is sunny with fairly average temps.

Kind of ironic - we were there in the same campsite the first week of March just before all heck broke loose with Covid. Haven't traveled anywhere this summer, now we're just dying to get out and Big Bend is the most feasible place to go right now so it will be deja vu.

I see #18 on the Chisos Basin Campground Map. Conveniently located next to the restrooms. Open at 2/3 capacity. Reservation required. Nice informative website.

Hi Jim,
We had no trouble "self isolating while in motion". Borders at Ca, Lv and Az were open and at the time of our travel without issue.

Except for one gas stop in AZ, all areas were under mandatory mask orders. Something that is second nature for us now.

Upon our return our county has issued a number of self quarantine orders for those traveling into the area ... so best to say that everything is fluid when it comes to Covid-19
