Where to stock up after pick up
Does anyone have advice regarding a good place to stop the first night after pick up. We want to have time to get things settled in the trailer and get groceries and any items we didn't think to bring along.
Our orientation time is 8 am. Not sure what time that gets us into Sumas. We want to head toward Olympic national forest after that first night then down 101.
Thanks
Larry and Caren

That will put in you in Sumas noonish. Head west on 544 and then south on 539 into the Bellingham area. You'll find everything you need along 539: Costco, Walmart (even though I don't shop there), grocery stores in the area, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Home Depot, etc.
Edited: There is the Bellingham RV Park by the airport which is convenient to all consumer outlets. http://www.bellinghamrvpark.com/

Karen. Thank you for some very timely information and thanks to Larry and Caren for posing the question. We have our orientation Sept. 10 and then spend our first night in Bayview state park. I wonder how many new Escapes have had their first night in that park? Loren

If you're staying at Bayview, Burlington has everything as well...don't forget BB&B.

Watch the orientation video a couple of times. If you are plan to use towing mirrors, put them on the night before. I just went through orientation, and it was a lot in a short amout of time. ETI was insanely busy, I was just there, but like a well oiled machine they pull off a great product. Build is tight. Very happy I drove 3,000+ miles to join an elite owners club Still have 3,000 to return home, plus a grand or two off the beaten path.

In Bellingham just off W. Bakerview is a Fred Myers.
I feel that that is the best store, lots of variety.
As you go south on 539 you turn right onto W. Bakerview and go a couple of blocks and it is on the left side of the street and it's open till 11pm.
I think W. Bakerview is two streets after Costco.

Thanks for this info. I'm counting on Fred Meyer... and Costco will be good, too. We're going to try not to haul stuff with us if we can purchase it after picking up the trailer. Sheets I'll take with us, but pillows? Might be a good time to get new ones...

Here's map of the area. There is also a Bed Bath & Beyond in the Cordata Center.

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to groceries. Price, quality and selection play into our choices. We spent three weeks in the PNW and shopped at a variety of chain stores. Our favorite turned out to be Safeway. After our pick up we headed to Lynden Washington, about 12 miles from Sumas. There is a very nice Safeway in the south side of that community.
I did not get to see much of the store. With a trailer that we owned for six hours I conducted two parking lot tours to interested parties, one who owned an Escape 17.

Our plan is to stop at KOA in Lynden for two nights. It is close to Sumas and like you, we want to get acclimated to our long-awaited trailer. The day after orientation, we are returning to Canada and benefiting from a driving course at Valley Driving School in Abbotsford.

Returning to Canada after Pickup
I am scheduled to pickup my 21 ft. next spring and plan to do some traveling in Canada after pickup. What paper work, temperary license plate for the trailer etc. do you need for return to Canada. How do you get a temperary license plate and what kind is it.
Thanks for any information you can provide.

We have several nights booked at the Lynden KOA as well and are going to do day trips to Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Wanted to stay close to ETI for a few days just in case.

Safeway turned out to be our favorite too - especially in Oregon.

Love the Haagen's grocery stores when we are on the west side of the state!

The Safeway in Lynden(is it still a Safeway?) has a great deli; suggest the German Potato salad.
Our Vons became a Safeway back in May and it is already going to close in 60 days. Haagen kinda goofed somewhat here(mis-pricing and no name recognition) and people fled. Too bad as they do have some good items. Not often a company goes from 18 stores to 140 in less than a year.

Albertson's I believe bought Safeway in the Spring and they own Haagens as well. They kept some as Safeway, closed some, made some Haagens. Our Safeway was made a Haagens three months ago and is now closing in 30 days. So who knows what it is or will be soon.

Hagen's Ferndale and Stanwood have good parking lots access for those who might be new to towing (via Google sat view - have a look).
The Market at Birch Bay (at I5) isn't too bad either depending on time of day and near by (fast food) restaurant traffic. Personal opinion is to go anywhere else though for better selection.

I stopped at the Lynden Safeway after picking up Ten Forward. Didn't need a thing other than food (menu planned, didn't take any food across the border). Big parking lot, but full... plan ahead when you park. You may want to leave ... It's a very nice Safeway!
