It's a fair question: Why, when you have 2 batteries, is it better that each of the two be 6-volt batteries, rather than two 12-volt batteries?
There are a couple of answers.
The first answer is that 6-volt batteries are less delicate and vulnerable to failure because the internal plates can be beefier and farther-spaced since only half as many are needed. They're also usually cheaper.
Of course, there's the opposing argument that if you lose one 6V you're out of luck but you can always use one of 2 12V batteries in a pinch.
The second answer is that the two 6V battery setup probably fits into the standard battery case usually supplied by ETI while a two 12V battery setup might not fit.
What reason did ETI give you for installing only dual 6-volts?

Of course two 12 volt batteries can be done...you just switch manually between the two if they are not a matched pair.
It is not commonly done because it is felt the dual 6 volt batteries perform better...and I am sure they do.
However I use my trailer batteries for so much more. You can see what I have done here.

Good luck with your order.

I've always liked having the redundancy of two isolated battery banks. Lose one battery and I still have full use of the other, it's not big deal, doesn't ruin my holiday.
I had ETI supply one 12V battery. Then I removed the battery box it came in, fabricated my own, also vented to the exterior and ran both positives to a marine battery switch. I can choose to use either battery and the other remains isolated and always charged. They can also be used together for a heavy load, like a microwave.
Works for me but the two 6Vs seems to be the most popular option. Did I mention that I liked redundancy?

I had 2x12v in my 1st E21 in 2014, they fit in the same sized box as the dual 6 ers.

Well one way to get 2 12V batteries is to order lithium...

That assumes that all 12-volt batteries are light-duty or dual-purpose things, and that all 6-volt batteries are heavy-duty proper deep-cycle designs... and neither of those is true. In the specific case of Interstate batteries used by Escape, the 6V that they use is a better-built battery than the 12V that they use, so you're better off with the dual 6V than connecting two 12V in parallel.
There are many plates in each cell of a lead-acid battery - the number of plates has nothing to do with the voltage.

If you really want dual 12-volt batteries, Escape may be willing to sell you one 12-volt battery in the box usually used for dual batteries... then you add your own second battery and wiring. They may also be willing to sell you a trailer with the dual battery box and no battery - you supply the batteries, and again add the parallel wiring yourself. These sort of custom orders have been allowed by Escape in the past, but policies change so you have to ask.

FWIW when I inquired about a battery-less purchase ETI politely refused, citing that the trailer would have no power for breakaway brakes, not meeting minimum requirements for the trailer at the moment of 'buyer hand-off' they set for everyone's safety / liability protections.
If I brought my own to Chilliwack for them to install there before formal 'hand-off' at Sumas that would be different, but alas not possible for me as a US buyer at this time (border restrictions). So maybe that would still be workable for Canadian buyers taking delivery at Chilliwack.
That all struck me as understandable. YMMV.

Yes, it's not a road worth trailer without a battery installed.
I probably could have asked that they put their one 12 volt battery in a dual box or at least asked if they have a dual box that will hold two 12s. On the other hand I've heard comments about the plastic boxes not sealing well so making my own gasketed box wasn't a biggie.

I wanted a different 12 volt battery than the one Escape provided.
After confirming that the battery would fit their box, they agreed that if I shipped them the battery they would install it in my trailer.
I ordered the battery through a Canadian dealer and had it shipped directly to ETI for install.

So what was that battery, and was there an ETI upcharge?

Battery is a Battle Born lithium.
No charge to handle the battery but I did pay extra to upgrade to the WFCO 8955LiS converter and the Orion DC to DC charger.
