17B bed

Has anyone ever seen/heard of a 17b with a bed larger than the standard width 49"? I know it would be tricky but Wondered if anyone has ever ordered one with a bit larger than standard size, thanks

Re: 17B bed

I think it would be hard to do, as the bed sides are defined by the refrig on one end and the sink on the other. Someone has made a modification so they sleep lengthwise I believe.

Re: 17B bed

Gocamp, someone had a bed extension made for the 17' and she said it worked great. It sticks out past the bed so your feet are in the "hall." I am pretty certain that Reace made it. You do not have to climb over the other person either.

Re: 17B bed

That was me and I just bumped it up in the modifications/alterations thread.(bed extension for 17b).Pictures are included...I did some mods to the comforter this past year and it works excellent--stuff to tuck in and keep things in place...

VERY easy mod...And I really like not getting woken up in the morning by someone crawling over me! I have such good sleeps in the trailer---it's nice to be able to snooze later than 7 sometimes!!!

I was wondering about a 17B with a queen-sized bed, and came across this thread...

The door is in front of the wheel wells. Would it not be possible to get rid of the shower on the drivers side, the closet on the passenger side, shift the door, fridge, sink/stove forward a foot, and get your full queen in there?

Eric mentioned that the fridge is a restrict point, but I don't understand why it can't be moved.

I'm not sure Anna-Marie's solution would work for the wife and I -- we'd be fighting for foot room between the fridge and sink all the time.

I think the stopper on this mod would be moving the door. I doubt if that could be accommodated as I doubt the Escape standard fiberglass mold can be altered for a one of without great cost.

You could consider moving the fridge to where the shower is, shifting the sink/stove ahead to get the space required. This would give you a galley similar to the 15A layout but perhaps longer. A narrow storage area could be built where the fridge used to be.

Of course you no longer have the bathroom feature (the mod you quoted would also get rid of bathroom) if that is a requirement!

All this would have to consider the weight distribution as well.

Just a thought?

Basically, a whole new trailer.
Another consideration is that the cupboards, partitions etc. form part of the structure and strength of the trailer.

Yeah, in hindsight that should have been obvious. Can't move the door...

If we were willing to do away with the bathroom all together it might still work, but we wanted to at least keep the toilet.

Still, might be worth bringing up with Reace when the time comes...

We share the bed in our 17B with a 40 lb. beagle.

Just snuggle.

You want the queen bed, you need the 19. It's worth it.

Another design consideration for trailers, is working around the wheel wells. Obviously the bath or a dinette would not do good there.

The bed in the 15' is a little bigger than the one in the 17'.

I currently pull a light tent trailer with a 4 cylinder rav 4. When I buy a new trailer I need to buy a new tow vehicle to go with it. I am certainly looking at the Escape 19, but if I could fit my needs into a 17 then it opens up a whole lot more possibilities in tow vehicles.
