17B Bunks at hitch end?

So the 17B has the option of bunk beds, does anyone know if they can be installed at the end where the small dinette is, i.e. the hitch end?

I really want to have a trailer where the dinette is at the far end of the trailer to enjoy any potential views.

That is the end where the bunk was installed and still is, as far as I know.
Prep for the bunk is done early in the build process.

I'm fine with sleeping at that end, but I don't think I'd be comfortable sleeping there with a bunk installed. Wouldn't want to be on top or bottom.


As for views; it's not that far from the front dinette to the rear window.

The extra wood for the brackets is fibreglassed into place when making the shell. This cannot be added after the trailer is finished.

The bunks are only really suitable for children 10 years and under, there isn't very much height with the bulkhead cabinets.

I am 5ft 10 in and not slim, and like sleeping on the bottom bunk. The bunk is quiet and I don’t have to climb over anyone to get in or out. I can go to bed early without inconveniencing others. It would not be a good place to be if you are claustrophobic.

My 18 year old daughter, who is about 5ft 5in, still uses the top bunk. The side cabinets above the upper bunk limit headroom so eventually my daughter won’t fit, but it’s been fine for the last 14 years. Too bad Escape can’t omit one cabinet during the build.

The lower bunk can get stuffy, which is exacerbated by the foam rubber pad and thick sleeping bag I use because they reduce the vertical space. I couldn’t find a small window, vent, or porthole that I would have wanted to install, so I use a ventilation fan that is not too well described on this link. It ain’t pretty but it works fine.

I understand why some folks don’t like to use the bunks, the space is limited and they are awkward to use.

Both kids will be off to college soon and so for the first time, we will lower the bunk and have a front dinette. It’s been quite a few years since we have used the rear dinette, we keep it set up for the bed, so the front dinette will be a new convenience.

My exterior doors are the same as gbaglo’s. Because the bunks are always set up, I often use those doors to access stuff I store under the front dinette seats. Which reminds me, I store too much stuff.
