Another vote for a 2-way water heater.

Could you supply a link to the control board? Thanks.

Has anyone checked with Reace lately about the possibility of an inside switch for the electric side of the water heater as a factory mod?

I bought it on Ebay. LIGHTED MONITOR PANEL BATTERY/FRESH/BLACK/GREY 2 WATER HEATER/PUMP SWITCHES RV | eBay

It looks like he has sold out again but the panel keeps showing up from different vendors periodically on Ebay. It uses the same electronic board as the one Escape now uses but adds the third switch for the electric hot water.

The relay is the Suburban part for the model SW6DEL (6 gal propane/electric with remote relay). Adding the relay makes the model SW6DE (model Escape supplies) the same as the SW6DEL. Here is where I bought it. Suburban Water Heater Relay 232948 | pdxrvwholesale

With the new panel and the relay, I leave the outside switch "on" all of the time and use the electric or gas switch inside.

Here is the wiring diagram.

Cool, thanks for the info. Please post your experience installing after you get the trailer. We still have a few months to go.

It seems that Escape has their hands full just trying to keep up with orders to be able to accommodate options that are not already on their list.

I would have liked to had the extra wire run from the panel to the hot water heater for this mod. but gave up asking after I was told no to every request. Since I plan to pull the fridge to add insulation on the top and sides per the Dometic manual, I will run the extra wire then.

Thanks for the info Tom. I more than understand where Reace is coming from with how swamped they are and wanting to get trailers to customers without even more delays.

Escape would not put an on-off switch inside for the electric from way back and as far as I know, they never would. Still do not know if that is a code reason. Never heard of Escape ever doing that from years ago even though they were asked.

It is my understanding ETI adds insulation around the fridge now and have for a couple years. cpaharley posted these pictures showing the insulation.

ETI did not want to make any changes to the stock water heater as it would negate the manufacturers warranty.

As we discussed the last time around this subject, the inside switch - whether direct or using the relay device - is entirely external to the heater and would have no effect on the appliance manufacturer's warranty. If Escape doesn't want to do it that's their choice, but the warranty should not be a concern to owners wanting to add this feature.

The model SW6DEL comes with the relay for remote on/off. Warranty is not a problem. Nether is the installation of a SW6DEL a code issue as the electric remote switch is 12v same as the propane remote switch.

I am adding the Suburban relay to the Suburban model SW6DE to convert it to a SW6DEL.

The replacement panel with the additional electric water heater switch is a KIB model no. M-SS1086 which is replacing the Escape supplied KIB panel.

This is not so much a mod as it is just upgrading the parts.

It was never a thought before I did it, but know others asked after seeing what I did, and he said no. I am going to discuss it with him when I visit in a couple weeks. Minimally, I would like him to leave enough wire for me to do my own switch. I have considered just wiring a relay inline, and using a low voltage lighted switch too.

I do like the idea of the panel Tom showed.

Did you have to add wire(s) from the 120V water heater switch in the panel, down to the relay itself?

Yes, one wire needs to run from the switch (electric) on the panel to the hot water heater. I have the wire shown in red in the wiring diagram.

Thanks for the confirmation. I suspected so when seeing the diagram, but nice to know for certain. I think I may have an extra 18g wire run, in case I do that.
