5.O questions....

My wife and I have decided that we need the little added space, coupled with the towing handling advantages, of a 5th wheel.

Today we had the opportunity to go see a Scamp 5th wheel Deluxe (the wood interior) and it is a very nice trailer for what it is. However, it's not going to work for us. The bed is cross ways and I'm about 6'3" tall so no room to streatch out....especially with a pillow. It might work for awhile, but it wouldn't work for us long term.

So, I have a number of questions regarding the 5.0 and thought I'd just put all my questions in this one thread, as they come up.

How much height does the center isle of the trailer have?

The bed up above......is it a true rectangle queen or is it a "curved" (or some other irregular shape) like the Scamp?

What is the measurements of the mattress?

Does the bed have any "overhange" area (for your feet to hang over, if that's what you wish)?

Probably not important questions (or questions at all) for a people of average height but certanly important for us tall guys.

Re: 5.O questions....

just curious JCZ (if that is your real name ), have you checked out the Escape site, and talked to Tammy or Reace yet. Doing that would answer many of your questions, and likely give you even further insight into things pertinent to your needs. When I was considering an Escape, and had yet to pull the pin, I had a few phone conversations with Reace and had traded a few emails too. You will be pleased with their level of assistance they offer.

Re: 5.O questions....

I think all of the specs are on the website...

We picked up our new 5.0 in June. We were pleased to see it came with a "real" mattress, rather than a foam mattress that we expected. It's a standard queen size mattress, although the front seems to be angled inwards slightly to accomodate the trailer profile. The standard queen size fitted sheets I bought fit perfectly.

There is about 3 feet of space at the foot end for you feet to dangle, should you so desire!

I believe the head room in the aisle is about 6' 3", but I havn't measured. However, the air conditoner does protrude about 2 inches, so if you get one, watch your head!

My partner is over 6 feet tall and has room to spare. We find it quite spacious.

Re: 5.O questions....

Thank you Jim and Sharon. By the way, I'm JC Mooney, but most just call me JC. The JCZ started with the license plate on my Harley, JCZ (showing possession as though it were JC's)....then went on to my Ford Harley truck (JCZ HD PU = JC's Harley Davidson Pick Up).....from there it went to my user name on the Sea Ray forum, Harley forums, trucks forums and now on to the trailer forums. Just like to keep it simple.

Yes, I've seen the Escape web site and sent Reace an email week before last through that web site however, they're in Oregon on vacation. I called the company last week and talked to Felcia.....she's supposed to be sending me some contact info on current 5.0 owners here in Nor Cal. Haven't received anything yet.

The web site does list the bed measurements but doesn't mention anything about irregular shape. Neither did the Scamp web site until we got up to Lake Tahoe and saw it first hand. That's why I posted the questions and it looks like Sharon has answered them pretty clearly and I appreciate that.

We look forward to being a 5.0 owner in the not to distant future.

JC

Re: 5.O questions....

Heh JCZ,
First problem is getting into the camper..standard door is 5'3". No problem getting in, but I've got binged a couple times going out! Probably being tall, you are more aware than I of such things.
Right inside, center isle, is 6'6". Turn left toward the dinette, right at the sink, it is 6'3". Turn right, the ceiling is 6'9" at the steps going up to the bed. The ceiling in the bath is about 6'4".
The bed is a standard shaped queen, and standard width, but is a couple inches shorter.....room for your feet however.
Love our 5.0....easy to hook up, and easy to pull. But, since the pivot point is over the axle, it's different in the way it turns (trailer radius is shorter than truck), and it backs differently....just a little learning curve.

Re: 5.O questions....

Hi: JCZ... In answer to your's
The height of the center isle is 6'2" at the table to almost 7' at the steps.
The bed is not curved in the corners. We have a full 60"X80" queen memory foam mattress in there and it is slightly elevated at the head which helps me breath/sleep better. There is about 6-8" extra width beside the mattress on each side which is a great place to store some of those bag chairs. The normal mattress is a RV Queen 60-76". I usually hang my feet above the top step, or hook them over the end of the mattress.
Yepper I have learned to duck when exiting the trailer because I added a piece of solid oak crown molding across the top of the screen door frame as a catch all storage for small items. I should have painted it bright yell-ouch!!! Alf

I'll probably have to add about 4" of foam rubber and paint it stripped black and caution yellow stripes.

You guys have been a huge help. I recognize the user name of a couple of you from helping me on another fiberglass trailer forum.....or should I say the fiberglass trailer forum. Just want to say I appreciate all the help in answering all my newbie questions.

We've finally narrowed it down to the final choice......it will be an Escape 5.0 and I look forward to talkin to Rese and Tammy when they return from Oregon.
