Americans buying cheaper RV's

When we were on our six yr sailing adventure, and we pulled into a place to dock our boat temporarily, we were always charged by the foot.

So my only complaint to costs in regard to camping is that we pay the same as any size RV. Boo! Our needs for electricity and water are much less than, say a big honkin' 40 footer. And our footprint much smaller than a huge RV with an almost equally sized toy hauler. Just a silent gripe of mine!

I am so thankful all those RVs are parked, especially in the summer. If only a fraction of them were on the road the CGs would be even more crowded.

But I'm glad they are there and parked. It increases production of all the stuff ('frig, water heater, pumps, etc) we need. If they weren't making a lot of these necessities they would be a lot more expensive.

A lot of them big RVs are on the road though. Just stop at a big rig RV park for proof. Surprisingly not nearly as evident at the places we go. Go figure. :-)

Just ask for the biggest site they have, you'll feel more like you are getting your moneys worth.

You see almost none if you pick a site or better yet a campground, without hookups.

In some campgrounds larger sites are more expensive. If you put a small RV in a big site, you still have the whole site so there's no reason for you to pay any less. At a dock, if a longer boat takes more of the dock, of course you would pay for more, but I've never seen a campground that puts RVs along a curb, each taking an amount dependent on RV length.

Sure, more space takes more light, and if you are running air conditioning that takes a lot more power for more space... but cooking and entertainment consumption have nothing to do with the amount of space. My trailer doesn't have an air conditioner - should I pay less for the same site?

Certainly a bigger space doesn't mean that any more water is needed. More people likely means more water, and campgrounds often have extra charges for more than a couple of people... regardless of the RV size, because a family of four can be in an Escape 17 while it may only be a couple in a big motorhome.
