Changing Escape Model Order

Hi All,

I just - within the last 1-2 weeks - placed an order for the E19 model. Build date is mid-2023, so nothing happening with it for over a year.

I emailed back asking if I can change my model and hope to hear that that can be done with no extra fee for the change. That is, I hope they do not see this as a cancellation and new order.

Has anyone ever done that - changed the model after placing the deposit? What is the usual response?

Thanks for sharing your experiences,
Lee-Ann

EDIT: requesting to change to a 21C model.

If you move up the the 5th wheel model your wait will probably be longer. The standard trailers appear to be more flexible in building and I would think your time slot would be close.

Thank you. I will edit my post - requested a change to 21C. Per the website, the build timing (schedule) looks to be the same as for E19. Just hoping I do not lose any money on the rrquested change.

Dunno about new management, but when I changed from a 19 to a 21 back in 2014 there was no charge for the change. I was told as long as changes were well before the start date there was no problem that would cause them to expedite new parts or delay the start date. In fact, I got my 21 4 months before expected!

Thank you. Given that my delivery date is at least 18 months out - i hope they would permit changes in the model at this time. Plus, it is going to a bigger (more expensive) model. I’ll post back what I hear.

We did exactly what you’re asking about and no, there was no charge when you do it early in the process. We went from a 19 order to a 21C order too.

We changed from a 17 to a 19 last year, no extra charge at that time as long as they haven't started building it.

We changed from 21C to 5.0. Once you sign a buildsheet you are locked into the trailer type. Not sure if or when you go to the end of the line on the 2nd trailer type. We did it early, so it didn't matter.

If your going bigger, get the 5.0TA. I am always annoyed when I pull into the grocery store or Walmart and can't park in spots end to end. My Tundra and 19 are so long. If I had to do it again, I would get the fifth wheel.

We've never had a problem parking our 21C and Ford Expedition in 2 spots end to end in any Walmart or grocery store parking lot. Plenty of room for us. -Bea

Made the change

I can’t figure out the editing the post function again…

Success with changing from 19 to 21C. Way early in the game…no issues to do it now.

Congrats on that- have had our 21C for 7 years after looking at a 19 first and have zero regrets. Largest bathroom & counter space of any Escape trailer.

I have owned 4 Escapes with #5 on order. E19 then E21 then back to E19 and then E21 and now guess what......E19 on order.....I should probably buy one of each until I make up my mind......

I’ve only made one tactical error in entering a parking lot over the years. Pulling the 21 with the Highlander I entered the Trader Joe’s lot in Fort Collins a few years ago on a busy afternoon. There were no pull through spots left and the corners were tight. I let Rita out in front of the entrance and made a few slow loops around the parked cars. She picked up what we needed and we were out of there in a matter of a few minutes.

In most cases there’s the alternative of parking well out of the mainstream and walking a little bit to get what you need. I’ve parked far enough away a few times that I think people thought I was going to camp but no worries.

So far I’ve only stayed in one “store” parking lot in hundreds of night of camping. That was the Cabelas lot in Billings MT in an area reserved for camping. No judgement here, just personal preference.

I’ve stayed in a few free campgrounds, some not so nice and also some paid campgrounds, state park grade and cost, not so nice. My most memorable head scratcher was camping on a newly installed asphalt pad with 6 inches of cross fall on a 14 foot wide site. What, no level and a string line?

My neighbor when I was growing up was a master operator on the motor patrol. He used to take us out to look at grading jobs he’d done before they were paved. I learned a lot from him.

Unfortunately the pride of accomplishment for many folks today is gone. That along with lack of campground layout understanding makes things less easy for campers.

19 to 17B

After putting down our deposit. we changed our order from a 19 to a 17B without charge. I got the impression people often change their order and it can be done until you sign off on your build sheet.

Terry: Most seem to go the other way (bigger). Interested in what your deciding factors were to go to the 17B from the 19?

Bigger to smaller

We decided the 19 was a little too heavy for.our tow vehicle, a 2020 Honda Ridgeline with a 5000 lb. max towing rating. Our 17B dry weight was listed at just under 2700 lbs., but was over 3100 lbs. with options we ordered and 3500 lbs. with our stuff and a full water tank. We are happy with the 17B. It works for the 2 of us and our 70 lb. greyhound..
