Counter Extensions

We are in the build process of ordering our first Escape, a 5.0TA. Counter extensions? Do you have them? Where? Do you use them? Thanks so much!

We have 4 total, 2 in the rear dinette to use when the stock table is removed and the area becomes the "lounge". One by sink for dishwashing/drying and I requested that the sink cover "not to be drilled" and I mounted that smaller one by the end of the bed on the nightstand wall, for a nightstand.

I have three in Ten Forward. One by the door for dish washing and staging items to go outside, and one on each side of the dinette. I have the u-shape lounge and NO table mounted. Like them all, use them all.

Hi: LOLA#1... Won't leave home without it. Well it is screwed to the cabinet end at the door. We use it daily for washing the dishes. It's a welcome addition for the kitchen. Alf

We have one by the sink, really valuable for the extra counter space when needed. And also two in the dinette, one on each side. We don't use those ourselves, though....we got them for the cats to use as perches to look out the windows!

If you're in doubt, I'd recommend going ahead and getting them - if you decided you didn't want one or more of them in the future it would be easy enough to remove them and just fill the screw holes with wood putty. But much easier to have them done at the factory with matching formica and edge trim than adding them yourself later.

David,

Probably not unique, but very “forward feline thinking.” I personally have long term exposure to cats (rhinitis) as we found out years ago with our first and only cat. Nowadays, when we have to take care of our daughter’s cat I manage to breathe with the use of Flonase. But good thinking! I’ve not experienced many cats that do not like a viewing perch.

We have four counter extensions.

One at the end of the counter by the door. Like cpaharley we turned that one sideways to give a little more room at the doorway. For us this extension is a must, we use it all the time, both for when we are inside and when outside.

We have two in the dinette area - I dislike them very much, they interfere with cushions and my Lagun table sometimes bumps into them (only when the table is positioned just right, otherwise they miss).
I am contemplating cutting an inch or so off the counter extension tables or at least the one on Colleen's side and just remove mine. I think a better option there (at least for us) would have been fold down cup holders.

Colleen likes the one in the dinette as she uses it while working at the dinette.

One at the step, we both like it, I work and can eat lunch there. Colleen uses it to apply makeup, hair drying etc. We also had ETI put in an electric outlet under the wardrobe closet for the laptop and Colleen's hairdryer / curling iron.

We just have one next to the sink, great for doing the dishes and getting things in and out when cooking outside. On ours (old body style), it does not leave a lot of room to get through the door when up, but we wouldn't be without it.

The first rally we went to after picking up the Escape, my wife saw the one next to the sink and chastised me for not getting it. Everyone said it's really handy while washing dishes.

I guess I'll have to get the router out and make her one.

It depends on your routine. I have the extension next to the sink, and I've only opened it twice in 2 years.

On the other hand, I have a small one on the bathroom wall next to the foot of the bed & I use it more than any of the others. It would probably get in the way for a couple, but since I travel solo, it is useful for glasses, nighttime meds, etc.

We have 3 in total. One by the sink and two in the dinette. Use them all the time.

We purchased three from ETI. One next to the sink that we use all the time.

The two for the dinette were not installed by ETI because Terry wasn't sure she wanted one, much less two in the dinette. After 270 nights in the 5.0 those two are in storage in our garage.

I will show Terry the picture of Ronn's on the bathroom wall to see if she wants one there.

Everyone's different.

Enjoy,

Perry

Perry,
Are the ones in storage the same size as the one by the sink? I might be interested in buying one if it makes sense and would fit. Can I mount it by the sink without having a reinforced wall ?

I believe the support for the sink is offset so that when it is raised the counter top and shelf will abut one another, otherwise it will mount under the counter top lip. I think this is one that will work with the offset https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
there is a study along the corner and normally one in the center. You can always add bracing from inside the cabinet under the sink.

Thank you, everyone! We gained a lot of information. As someone here said, “everyone’s different.” We are going to go with the sink side extension and no others at this point. We may add more down the road. Thanks again!

Just getting the hang of this - I posted right underneath the picture of the kitty, yet the reply came at the bottom of the page. I’ll figure it out one day lol
