Escape Interior questions
Hi Escapers
I am a new to this site and don't own an Escape at this point - but going to (hopefully).
I looked at some pics you put up here and I was wondering about the fabric and colors of the seat cushions. Have you been able to choose? Is there some sort of "collection"?
How about the matress in the 21'? Are you happy with it and did you buy a matress topper? We have a memory foam matress at home and I would buy a memory foam topper if needed.
...more questions to come for sure...
Thanks so far,
Mel (& Ron)

Be interesting to see if there is an update to the stock fabric. Otherwise you can buy your own and have them do it for an upcharge- presently $100.
Probably don't need a topper for the mattress. Some, including us have forgone the stock mattress for either a better grade or a DIY mattress.
Memory foam mattress or topper is fine at home, however if you camp when its cold the memory foam gets hard. Many have gone with latex instead, and for use with a softer mattress it can be more buoyant.
Love the 21; it has only been out about three years now and just a handful have sold theirs for the usual various reasons.

I thought I had heard there will be no change in the default fabric. As far as a collection to choose from, for the extra $ you buy what you want and send it to ETI. Many have used sailrite.com, with Sunbrella coming up often as the brand they choose.
We're fine with the default.
Everyone has different needs for the mattress, local manufacturers will often make them to your size specs. We prefer a very soft bed, to date we have the stock mattress with a latex topper. As Ross mentioned, we found the previous memory foam was like wood when it got cold, very slowly your body would soften a hole in it. Latex is much better in that aspect but we should have gone softer. Maybe I'll try the air mattress route next winter.
Pat, what do you have, a sleep number?

Besides choosing your own fabric, you can also select your choice of countertop (Formica brand only) and vinyl flooring. The combinations are endless! You do pay more, but you can get what you like/want if you don't like the stock choices.
Also, on the dinette cushions - they come with vinyl on the flip side, but you can have them made with fabric on both sides. You just double the amount needed. I imagine you can do the same with the stock fabric; although there might be an additional charge (heck if I know as I'm just guessing). I'm getting the same fabric on both sides as I didn't see the need for vinyl on the flip side. Nobody will be sitting there with wet rear ends, nor will there be wet doggie paws (traveling with cats and they're not going in any water) or whatever. Plus, some folks noted that the seams can start to tear where the fabric and vinyl meet.
When you use custom fabric, they'll use some of it for the window valences or you can have them done in a different color. Sunbrella is the brand that many will use for their fabric choices.
You can get free samples of the Formica at their web site. Some places will offer samples of the Sunbrella fabric either for free or a small charge. For flooring, look around at a flooring specialist-type store as Lowe's/Home Depot won't have as much to choose from.
Most folks will order their flooring through Pioneer Building Supply in Chilliwack and ETI will pick it up when they need it. ETI will order your countertop for you - you just need to tell them which one it is. Fabric can be shipped directly to ETI (or hand delivered if you live close enough to do so).
Picking the fabric, flooring and countertop were the hardest decisions we had to make regarding the trailer we have on order. I know many are happy with the stock choices, but it's great we can get our own if we want something different. Unlike most of the other trailer mfgrs out there - many of which believe it all has to be brown.

Latex runs the gamut on soft/firm; Talalay vs. Dunlop; ILD #, 2" vs. 3". Latex perhaps is not as well known as memory foam but I believe it is a better product- especially in an RV. Check out sleeplikethedead.com for more info.

Believe me tried everything including putting new soft latex on top of Escape mattress . Because we paid for it , kept trying . Finally years ago and ,can't find them anymore unboxed the 2 in aero bed air mattress we had in the camper . It has controls for air pump ,each side individually . Put 4 in soft Latex on top . Don't ask we have 2 , 2 in. . On the bottom have extra 2 in piece grey foam , from Select Comfort we had extra . Total 8 in bed . It is a joke in my family . Me and beds . I just have a terrible time . I'm pretty good now . Have a 15 in Select Comfort at home for years with the top being soft 2 in Latex . When I was a kid could sleep on the floor . Would you believe I have a couch in living room I Love to take naps on . Go figure . That's my story . Also why I have a RV so I can have my own bed . Pat

Way to pay it forward Laura. I remember a while back when you were asking the same questions, and now you're answering them. Love that.

I have the Ultimate Dreams MEDIUM 3" Talalay, had no idea on densities as there is/was no where you can try latex, and it darn well isn't getting rolled up back into the box. For the $ I'll live with it, at least for a while. Maybe I can come up with a sandwich like Pat that'll work, another 3" of soft on top, of course we'll be getting closer and closer to the loft ceiling.
Buying bedding is not my favorite activity, right up there with walking into the car dealership.

Bob I think it was Jim Bennett who bought a new latex mattress for his 19 ft .Maybe he will chime in . If the mattress doesn't work you want some 3 in firm foam on bottom then your 3 in med latex and if you want it softer get 2 in soft latex for top . That will give you 8 in total . ! and should give you a nice bed . For me I need support for my back but soft to kind of sink in , so no pressure points . You don't want to go to high . Hope this helps . Pat

I ordered mine from Plush beds . If they don't come with a cover , I can't remember . I did get a cotton cover or bamboo . The soft latex can tear moving around , hence cover and you just flip it , to move it then it will stay put . Pat

I just use a memory foam topper never have slept in the trailer when it was cold enough to harden it but I guess if you travel in very cold weather it might get hard. I've not had that issue the latex mattress sounds nice but I'm very comfortable with my topper

Don't think the joints were designed to last more then 50 years, they sure get uncomfortable easy. Could sleep on anything 10 or more years ago. I can dig up Jim's post, but after buying the topper I'll try and make it work. Not like I stayed awake for the 4 weeks we used it in February.

I have used the stock mattress in all my close to dozen campers, both used and new. I did replace the EggCamper one with a futon after awhile but after sleeping on the ground or if any one is a veteran, those military mattresses, the stock rv mattress is a whole better and I'm asleep before my head hits the mattress.

Wifey thought the stock 21 mattress was too soft. ETI put us in contract with their supplier - we had them build the most firm mattress they could and delivered it to Escape with their regular orders. Paid them $450 Canadian and Escape gave us a $150 credit for not using their stock version. Great mattress.

Escape Interior questions
My wife and I find the stock Escape mattress very comfortable.
About the vinyl on dinette cushions, if you boondock and don't run your Maxifan and keep the trailer cooler to save battery you will find the vinyl necessary as the condensation doesn't penetrate to the foam inside. We do pull the top of the seat back cushions forward to lessen the condensation.

The vinyl does serve a purpose . Somewhere on the forum a couple used pool noodles behind the dinette cushions that also helps . Also makes sitting more comfortable . Pat
