I wasn't particularly concerned about inside comfort; I was most worried about the fresh water tank freezing and splitting. My original inquiry to ETI was about installing a heat tape. Dave said it could only be done as part of the spray-on insulation. Make sense, as the insulation would aid the heat tape. Cost was quoted as a little over 1100 cdn.

Insulation makes a lot of sense and cents. Whether it is hot or cold outside, it makes the inside more comfortable.

If you are looking at used the you have to consider what can be done to make the trailer more like what you would order if you were buying new. With the exchange rate these days and the price of used Escapes, it is pretty hard to justify buying used and then upgrading but if the price is right it might work.

Lots of places spray foam on trucks and trailers or you could get a home insulating company to spray it for you. There are many different types of foam, both by chemical formula and by physical properties. You want a very firm foam because the softer stuff will get torn up in road use. The soft stuff is cheaper per R-value but it won't last.

What you can do to your trailer to make it your ideal is limited only by your imagination. For instance, you can make shutters for the windows if you have condensation problems. I have a couple of windows in my house with shutters for insulation because those rooms don't get much use. I wrapped 1" Styrofoam with aircraft plywood that was a waste product at a local aircraft builder. This stuff is 7 plies but only 1/8 inch thick. Not your normal plywood. I used 1x1 wood around the perimeter and foam weather stripping to seal it. I covered it with curtain material so that when the shutters are closed they just look like curtains. It works well and they only weigh about 4 pounds each.

I'm not saying you should do this but it is something you could do.

If you are handy and can do this sort of thing then go for it. If not then save up for a new Escape. Or you could just get it, use it as it is, see how it works for you and then decide whether to keep what you have, upgrade what you have or trade up.
