Importing a 17A/B or 19 to Canada
I was wondering if anyone on this site had experience importing an escape trailer from the US to Canada? If so how difficult, expensive was it? Thanks

About 3 yrs ago I purchased a 2013 15B in the US and imported it into Canada. The fees include paying GST on the purchase price of the trailer at the US/CA border coming into Alberta and the RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) fee which was about $300 at the time. As part of the RIV program, we also had to get the trailer inspected at an approved facility before it could be registered. I am not sure, but you may also be responsible for any Provincial sales tax that applies in your own Province.

As DW indicated pretty straightforward. Pay GST at border, provincial sales tax at time of registering the trailer. RIV fee and an simple inspection and your good to go. Mind you...when I did this we weren't in the middle of a pandemic.

Older thread but wondering, were there any modifications required regarding lighting etc indicated at the inspection facility?
Also, do they not want the imported vehicle to sit at the border for 24 or 48 hrs under the RIV requirements?
Thanks.

When we brought a Scamp back from the US it was just drive up, go inside and pay the fees and carry on. Then on to an inspection at Canadian Tire the next day.
It's not like importing a motor vehicle where you have to give them time to search titles etc.
I'd be surprised if anything's changed. For a Canadian built trailer to return to Canada should be a non-issue. I'd confirm by phone that's still the case before I actually bought a unit.

I bought my 15B from a couple in New Mexico and imported the trailer back into Canada. Was quick at the border, they looked at the bill of sale and charged me GST (quick but not entirely painless). A day or two later I went into Canadian Tire and they did an inspection. They never went inside the trailer at all but just looked at lights and tires. After the inspection they gave me some paperwork that allowed me to register the trailer.
