That taste you get from the water lines Donna is a combination of the plastic chemicals and the water and you will always have that, regardless of antifreeze use. I would never purposely use water that sat outside in a container for more than a couple of days to avoid stagnation and that is what happens to your fresh and hot water tanks. This has happened in every trailer I have owned (7) in the past 6 years, the taste is there with or without antifreeze.

I totally agree with you Jim... Being the Master of Mods (MoM)... have you ever considered a system that would use the 5 US gal water cooler bottles... a system that would travel?
Anyone else out there?

Texas fan is an extra fan to circulate air behind the refrigerator. Helpful in hot climates.

I thought the Texas Fan was only needed if you attended Texas Barbecues….

Not yet, I may bring a mini keg in my refer but I have one of these for my water Amazon.com - BEVERAGE CONTAINER - 2 GALLON - Food Dispensers
and a couple of gallon jugs for the dogs. I learned a long time ago that their stomachs are more sensitive than mine to a change n water.

Can a Texas fan be retrofitted? Sound like a great option and I don't even live in Texas! Yeehaw!

One thing with water taste in trailers that is huge, is the source of the water in the first place. When filling at home in Calgary, we are fortunate to have one of the best drinking water supplies for a city, as we are so close to the source in the mountains. When on the road, there have been lots of places where the water has has a 'distinctive' odour to it, and we do not drink it.
We find on the road having two 4 liter (1 gal) water containers suits any fresh water need we might have, as accessibility for refilling is quite good. We have pretty much always used whatever water is available for cooking, and use our battled water for drinking.

I think in order to retrofit the Texas fan, the refrigerator has to be pulled out, so it can be done, but it will cost more than doing it during the build. We finally decided to get the Texas fan. It can be manually turned off which was the deciding factor, since we wouldn't want to listen to the fan unless it was needed.

Your right Jim about the Texas fan. And since you didn't add that to Blackjack's build sheet, you'al have to stay north of the Mason-Dixon line during the summer. Never getting to experience genuine Texas barbeque.

I guess you guys need that fan in the winter also, while eating your barbecue, or is the MaxxFan enough?

I'm getting the Texas fan and haven't been to Texas for more than 10 years. I just want everything wired for the time I camp where it's HOT and need that to keep all the food as cool as it needs to be in the frig. This is an item that expensive to do as a mod from ETI. Plan ahead is my motto. YMMV

Jim it was 80 degrees F today. In fact I mowed the yard in shorts and a tee shirt. Is it still snowing up there? I can only image shoveling out the grill to cook.

Thank you for the good thoughts. On a positive note, we're getting really good at recycling our dish water and taking very short showers. Almost feels like camping.

I only threw that out there because if it's a nearly steady 80 degrees in February it will likely be unbearably hot down here soon. Were getting out of here by June this year. Not even the Texas fan will save your food Donna.
