Opinions on oven please

We are finalizing the build sheet for a classic 19 and my hubby wants the oven (along with microwave). For those of you with the oven, are you happy with the choice? Does it work the way you'd expect? Would you do it again?

Oven works ok, although it cooks unevenly without a pan/stone to distribute heat. We got it because the 21 has a lot of space, not sure we would with a smaller rig. Probably would have gone with a countertop toaster oven instead in that case.

We have this Breville toaster oven at home, and it is AMAZING

$250

i did lots of research before buying it... and it is awesome.

actually bakes, well, and is big enough to cook dinner for 3 people.

many frozen pizzas fit in it just fine. Cook great, as does fish in a pan, etc.

Bagel mode rocks. Toast is good.

never thought of bringing it along, but now we will, sometimes!

cheaper than an oven, and more flexible. (but needs 120v)

We LOVE our oven and use it all the time! The style ETI uses is very good, the stove top portion is great too!

We use this oven too - Baking isn't an every day thing so it is stored in the bottom of the big closet (which we use as a pantry) until needed. Toast is made in a little toaster that lives under the sink.
If we want to bake something when we don't have 120v, I use a camp dutch oven outside.

Edit:
Sorry, I just noticed you were asking about a 19 - not sure if there's a good storage place or counterspace for this oven.

I've been using a Crusinart TOB 155 Toaster Oven (similar to the Breville) in my 17B when I have hookups, which, with the addition of a ceramic tile in the bottom, works great, but found I spend at least half my time dry camping. Even with a large enough inverter, baking for long periods would deplete the batteries more than my solar could replace.

My solution is to use a Dutch Oven, combined with a propane powered Volcano Grill to bake when I don't have hookups. It works, but is difficult to regulate temperature, set up time is annoying, and getting a finished pie out of the Dutch Oven is "interesting!"

When I started to consider replacing the 17B with a 19 (the 2017 version), I wanted both an oven & microwave, as well as the 2 door refrigerator. After looking at the amount of drawers, cabinets, and counter space lost with all those additions, and the additional cost of reversing the bed & table so I could have a large table with "U" shaped dinette, I switched my order to a 21. Because of the expense of reversing the bed & table, refrigerator upgrade, etc, the cost difference between the 19 & 21 was less than $200.00.

We have an oven in our 19' Escape and use it on every trip. One of our favorite camping meals is pizza. We bring dough either homemade or purchased at Whole Foods or Market of Choice and a red, white or pesto sauce. Then, we add ingredients found along the way. If we are at the coast that usually means oysters, muscles, clams, etc.
We also bake french fries to go with different burgers. It's a great oven.

We have an oven in our 19 and use it at least once on every outing. You do lose some storage but for us it works. Also an oven can be used without hookups vs a toaster oven or similar.

You have to determine what your cooking needs/desires are.

We opted not to have the oven in favour of more & better storage.

We had an oven in our previous camper and used it exactly once for it's intended purpose.

The rest of the time, it was used as an inconvenient cupboard.

Had an oven once. Kids made cookies, think we did pizza once, never got used much. All of that we do now on the BBQ if needed with a pizza stone. Most the cookie dough's can be nuked nowadays in the micro when hooked up. If no kids, we really don't make those foods. It all comes down to your personal style, what you cook and how you need to cook it whether you want an oven or not.
LOL, Tom it does make a pretty good storage cabinet.

Warms the trailer up even more on a nice day. Funny no one mentioned this aspect of an oven. Summertime and the trailer is HOT when oven is operating, heck we even cook outdoors as much as possible on warm evenings. Micro too? we have neither and don't miss at all. a rusty stove top toaster is it. someone should make a stainless model.

Why is your oven rusty ? Ours is used a lot but it is kept clean after it cools down . In fact our previous ovens were just about new looking too. I think you wouldn't want to cook inside if it is hot . Don't at home either . But if we can use Ac then it doesn't matter . Have microwave at home and it is used daily . Found microwave if have hookups used the same . Each to there own . We love the oven and microwave too . Pat

Some folks use the oven and like them, some get it and never use it. If your husband wants the oven, get the oven. If you find you don't use it it makes a dandy bread box.

we do NOT have an oven or microwave. The inexpensive stove-top toaster is all we have oven-wise. They're made of steel and eventually rust, especially if you live at the beach.

we do occasionally use a DO (Dutch Oven) when the need arises. Mostly desserts!

Still don't get the rust issue . Just saying not our experience . Our camper previous which was made in Oxnard (beach) Oven still looked new when we sold her . It was a 1992 which made it 21 years old when we sold her . Because I love the ocean that is where the camper spent most of her time . My little motorhome was 1979 was 24 years old and stove looked like new . Motorhome also spent most of her time at beach . My oven is almost 3 years right now and still looks new .A long time ago had the little stove top toaster and they do rust . Our ovens never have . Pat

Reread the post. It says a stove top toaster got rusty, not an oven.

Whether or not to get the oven was one of my (our) hardest decisions. We ended up getting it and have been very glad of it. It's not big enough to roast a turkey, but it does biscuits, brownies, corn bread, and pumpkin pie Very Well. Initially it seemed to burn a little bit cooler than advertised (adjusted "temp" by about 25 degrees); we change out our propane regulator before our last outing and I think it cured the problem.

One reason I went for it is the way it's installed, very near the galley wall, maximizing the other side of the counter top. Not an inexpensive option, but for us, no regrets. YMMV
