Actually I believe Barry was referring to the new 5.0/TA which has a little cubby by the door. Wrong model for this thread, but still an Escape!

Leon,

I did a search on the site for "wifi repeater" and came upon your initial post in this thread. I have also found that many parks have wifi, but it is weak, especially in the tent area where I usually end up parking without hookups. What wifi repeater did you have in mind to use before you changed your mind?

I was thinking of something like this antenna from Amazon.

On our trip this spring, we just used the cell phone antenna and booster and made the cell phone a hotspot. That worked except for places like Big Bend National Park where there was neither WIFI nor cellular service. If I ever get the antenna, I will mount it on some pic pipe that I can attach to the bumper when I want to use it. Not sure how I will get the cord inside though.

I requested a way to do this and Escape offered an "Exterior electrical access hatch, front D/S dinette" I'll see when I pick up my trailer how it worked out as I got it just for this purpose.

I would like to see what you get. After the Rally we are returning to Chilliwack for a couple of modifications. We are getting a raised floor for the dinette because we both have short legs. Lindy has decided a foot flush toilet sill make it easier to stow the dirty laundry behind the toilet. Mike's question has made me think about getting a wifi repeater, so an electrical access hatch may be just what I need...

I asked ETI to provide a driver side hatch for an eventual additional solar power connection, this is what they installed. It's the standard hatch for the permanent power cord. There are other options available

We also asked ETI to install an exterior electrical access hatch on the D/S, in case we needed it for future addition of antenna cable, etc. Thanks for posting the photo

Thanks. I'll look into getting something like this at some point. I'll put it on my list for trailer mods.

One other option

Mike,

Here's another option for WIFI:

JEFA Tech: Long Range WiFi Repeater Kit for RVs

Many of the wifi antennas have a USB connection, which works if you only have a single computer. But between Lindy and me, we have a computer and a couple of iPads. This looks to be a Linksys 54gl router, probably running dd-wrt. So if you wanted you could just get the antenna and cable, and get the router somewhere else for less money. on the other hand, if you get it all from these folks, it should all work together, and you can complain to a single place.

Jim,

I had the same issue. I finally bit the bullet and replaced all of the electrical boxes.
It wasn't too hard in the end just more work ...

I have 7 x12v outlets so the plug in USB works fine. Now I just need to find someone who wants to go the 120v route. I even found a GFCI with USB- anyway, that is what garages and basements are for, storage of unneeded items until you have a garage sale.
