Thermal Window Option

Depends on model, yes on everything other than the 5.0 TA, there they do not.

Thanks. We are interested in the 5.0TA and we like to have the windows open at night in the bedroom when the temp is right and to hear the nature sounds. I know there is an escape hatch above the bed and maybe that would work. Is there a screen on the escape hatch? Don't know if that would be a deal breaker for us.

You can always ask for the thermal windows except in the bedroom.

On the 5.0TA the thermal window up grade is $1,000, it's $800 if you go with non-thermal opening type in the bedroom area. This is the option that we will go with. Bob

I'd go with the opening non double pane in the loft if I could do it over. Maybe a good excuse to take a ride to the factory some day.

The rear window does not open either.

Don't know if it's applicable to the model in question but be aware on the 19 the front window is single glazed, even if you have the thermal upgrade, because double glazed can't be used because of the exterior window cover.

The difference in condensation between the double glazed windows and the front single glazed window is noticeable. I'd go with double glazed where ever possible.

True. On the 5.0TA it doesn't apply though, since there's no front window or cover.

Thanks, I think the "Bob's" suggestion is the way to go, thermal windows except for the loft. Great idea and save a couple hundred bucks, too. Could always make some inside plastic panes to put on the windows in the loft if the weather called for it.

We used to use the plastic film where you tape the edges to the window frame, then hit it with a blow dryer to shrink it tight. Works surprisingly well -- provided you have a blow dryer handy and some place to power it. Easy to remove as well.

or, get the thermal windows and open your escape hatch for ventilation, with a window open below you should have some type of air movement.

The escape hatch has no provision for rain and it's too big for the standard vent covers. If it rains while you sleep, your getting wet. Works okay though if you trust it to stay dry.

I went with the opening windows in the loft area on my 5.0 TA. I love to sleep with fresh air, for me this was the best and least expensive option. I could not imagine not be able to open the loft windows...

Okay, I have the thermal windows in the loft and I don't see it as a problem. Open the vent above the bed... just a bit, like less than 1/2". Turn the Max fan on to exhaust on low and it will pull air down the loft vent. You'll get plenty of air... it's a huge vent. That's what I did this past weekend and it was POURING rain. So, I know it works.
