I periodically weigh our 21C at a local moving company. This last time, the guy in the office told me that if someone with a RV travel trailer drives into one of those freeway/highway truck scales while they are open, looking to grab a weight, beware! If you exceed any limit, they WILL write you a ticket. No thank you! It's good to know your weights, but look for places that offer their scales for free or low cost or do like Sherminator - go when its closed. - Bea

Living in BC, we had the opportunity to view the various models available at the ETI showroom in Jan 2020. We chose the 21NE for its interior space and queen bed over the 19. It's been many years since I was considered skinny, so interior space in the 21NE was appreciated. We ordered our rig, pretty much maxed out the options (with manual awning), resulting in the our final build sheet numbers for Dry/Shipping/Cargo Capacity noted below. 21NE has a max weight of 5,000 lbs.

Trailer dry weight (base) = 3365 pounds
Shipping weight = 3981 pounds
Cargo capacity = 1019 pounds

As for the U-shaped dinette in our 21...I'm just in the process of swapping out the original ETI table, for a Lagun system with a custom top. Photos will follow later once I'm done.

We found the dinette table too big, awkward to get around, and the slider cumbersome to use. With the Lagun, we can actually swing the table aside, right into the corner of the dinette, making access to the cubbies, getting/sitting around and generally making it much more usable for us.

We're setting the original table aside and keeping it for any potential camping with grandkids, or future owners. As it sits right now, we reduced the tabletop dimensions by roughly 30%. There's still plenty of room for two people to enjoy a meal and spread out.

LxWxH - 21' 4" x 7’ 4” x 9’

Is the 21 really only 215 lbs heavier than 19? This is based on the base specs, guessing the options more or less weigh the same regardless of trailer.

Our goal is to be as nimble as possible (e.g. hook and go, mountain, prairie, or city). Looking at the spec of these two trailers it looks like a wash, what am I missing…
I wouldn't plan on a E19 having a 306 lb tongue weight. Mine is about 460 lbs. So consider your payload carefully.

Our tongue weight is about 420 lbs and we don’t have the tongue box.
We just camp in our trailer so the 19 is perfect for us. I like that it is wide enough that I can sleep in the cross bed comfortably but narrow enough that i can see past it with my stock mirrors on the truck.
However if I was over 6 ft tall I would consider the NE.

Thanks all for the responses. Helped us a lot getting all the input and putting things in perspective with real world examples. Never say never, but think we are landing back in the E19 camp. Really looking for the right balance between light and comfort... thanks, again!!

21 vs 19 weight difference

The biggest factor in towing weight of each trailer is NOT the empty factory weight but simply how much you load up the trailer. The 21 c that we now own after having a 19 for 8 years is capable of stowing much more and we do and up goes the gross towing weight significantly!

Depending on the length of your tow vehicle, here's another thing to consider. Last summer I ended up boondocking at a great spot on undeveloped BLM land. The wide spots with plenty of turn-around space were occupied by huge 5th wheels and travel trailers. All of these folks were running their generators 24/7, which I really didn't want to listen to.

Past these folks down the road were a bunch of other sites where there were no trailers at all. Turn-around space was limited. With my crew cab pickup and a bit of jostling, I was able to back my 19 totally straight into an idyllic and very quiet site. I stayed there for 3 days before someone else came down the road towing a 32' travel trailer. They had to back it up nearly a mile to get it out. Then another party arrived towing a 21' Mini Winni with a crew cab pickup. To make a long story short, they too were unable to turn around. Instead of backing, they ended up unhooking their trailer and hooking it back up to get it out.

This illustrated to me the advantage of having a 19' versus a 21'. You have more options for where you can go. That extra 2 feet makes a difference! If you think you'll never camp at sites such as I described, and/or you're planning to tow with a vehicle with a shorter wheel-base, I would go with a 21NE. But if you want nimble, the 19 is that, and more!

Even more nimble, a 17', although I want a 19'.

We considered the 21NE although were originally considering the 17b (we gave up on the 17b when we saw how many people moved up to the 19 later, and once my wife noticed the 19 had a queen bed). The 21NE didn't seem much heavier than the 19 and the cost difference wasn't very big considering some of the 19 options were standard on the 21NE.
What kept us getting a 19 and not the 21 is that we have frequently been able to camp in smaller leftover spots that are too small for larger campers when we had our 16' Scamp.
Just this afternoon we were having lunch with a couple that had a 19, and then a 21, and now back to a 19, although that may have been more to floor plan than size since their 21 was a 21C.
We are currently enjoying a few days camping with friends at a nice state park. The only spots left when we reserved were all small, and our 19 fit perfectly in the "15' maximum trailer size" spot, where a 21 would have stuck out a bit.
Loving our 19. 😁

I have gone from a 19 to a 21, back to a 19 and then up again to my current 21. Seems like the 21 has a better floor plan for us.

definitely true, my F250 longbed 4x4 has a turning circle of like 62 feet, and the combined truck+trailer is around 42 feet long (a little more with bikes on back), this definitely means I have to plan my egress

BUT, do not want to sacrifice the nimble aspect (e.g. being nimble is more important than stretching the legs out). Anybody who had a 19 that went to a 21, but wish they had stayed with the 19?
This is a trailer tour of Eggscapes 19. You mentioned the U shape dinette, he added it. As far as length, we got the 19, it was an upgrade from our 17B and really we only wanted the permanent bed. The other bonus is we often put it on sites for 18' and under, a 21' would be to much of a stretch. Storage is also cheaper here under 20'.

I do not think there is that much of a difference as evidenced by my E19, then E21, then E19, now a E21...........

Thanks for posting that... I’ve seen that video, have watched it many times, and like watching it again, again. Brings me back to the E19 every time. 😊

So I have a buildsheet for at 21, but I keep going back that I should’ve picked a 19, as I love my casita for how small and easy it is to maneuver. What made you go back-and-forth and settle on the 21?

the bed on the 21 goes front rear, instead of side to side, so one of us doesn't have to climb over the other to get out of bed.

We have a E19. There are plenty of days when I wish we went we with the E21, however, many of the Naional Park campgrounds can barely fit our E19 and truck. This choice is a personal one not really based significantly on cost nor weight but on how you plan to use the trailer

2 cents

21C also has the most counter space and the largest wet bathroom of any Escape.

The 19 is really a tandem axle stretched 17B. Aisle is narrower too vs. the 21.

Maybe I'm just a clumsy clod with a heavy touch but I'm not really sure that I could tell the difference between the two. My truck doesn't care and I'm not sure that I could feel the difference.

Yah, my Scamp was cute as all get out and I could move it by hand. But that got old quick. At the end of the day my wife likes the kitchen counter space etc. better than the 19 and if that makes her happy then moving up to the 21 was right for us.

You will be the only one who knows what works for you. We didn’t like the narrower beds in the 17 or 21C. We don’t need or want the extra length or width of the 21. For us, the 19 is best. Others obviously have their own opinions. You will need to visit and check out the models of interest and really decide what works for you.
