Your favorite tag along cooler

What is your favorite cooler to take along on camping trips......size and brand that seems most convenient and stays cold?

A 54-quart Coleman stainless steel cooler although it is heavy.

2 different things. Having a fridge in the trailer negates the need to keep things cold for long periods, if that's an issue for you look at the Yeti. I've got such for canoe camping but not for the trailer. We just carry a small 9 qt job for running around during the day.

We have been using a Coleman 52 Quart Xtreme® 5 Cooler. Things we like about it:

• In hot weather saves having to open the fridge in the trailer for frequently needed things like drinks
• With block ice it keeps cool for about 5 days
• Great for picking up food from the store

We keep the cooler outside the trailer and move it around to keep it out of the sun.

After doing some comparison shopping we bought ours at Fred Meyer.

We have used an ultra cold 50 by Igloo for many years. We normally use one 1/2 gallon container of ice per day and have never purchased ice when we camp. We intend to transfer from the camper fridge to this while we are traveling to keep things from "bouncing" around.

Although I have many coolers for different applications and conditions, my favorite is a 65qt. Glacier Iceburg. A rotational polyethylene molded cooler with a full 3" of insulation. The performance exceeds anything on the market including Yeti! An extreme application for 10 to 15 of days of ice and cold food in the hot Texas weather. It's my backup for a less than stellar Dometic 5.0 refrigerator. Not cheap / not lightweight.

We've been using a Coleman 62 qt Xtreme Cooler to supplement our tiny refrigerator in our pop-up. Not sure if we'll continue to take it along once we get our 19'

We go through much too much ice to NOT take along a Coleman Extreme. You can only make so many G & T's with the small amount of ice produced in our fridge!

Try Tequila and Tonic, with a twist of lime. A fantastically tasty and refreshing summer's drink.

We have two different size Yeti's that we carry depending on the needs of that particular trip. We mainly keep Cokes in them because they stay colder than in the fridge. Usually the one we carry with us will stay inside the Tahoe.

We often take a12v plug in cooler on long trips--keep stuff good in the car(always take it to the states for a Trader Joes run...As for ice cubes--I have the reusable little plastic ones--rinse them off and good to go again-keeps drinks cold enough.

Our extreme cooler if need more room for meats , milk , etc. Cost less then Yeti 192.00 on Amazon . this is why I got the idea insulation was very important to any of these frigs . We have a 5 day igloo too if not real hot . This rides in truck . The stainless pan for meats was extra about 12. Pat

We use a Coleman Extreme and like it a lot. A little trick from my old Boy Scout days has proven useful, also. If you're near an abundant water source, a large towel draped over the cooler and kept soggy damp will extend the life of the ice significantly. The swamp cooler effect.

We use an Igloo STX 54Cooler. Not quite the insulation of some of the super coolers, but way less money, and still better insulated than the majority of other coolers. It is mostly a drink cooler, and lasts ice lasts a long time. Nonetheless, quite a tough tough cooler, with metal hinges and latch.



A friend has the Coleman Xttreme. These two coolers seem to compare quite well.

Coleman which we also have is a nice cooler . We have 3 all total . This one I have pictured though will double time with not having to have a lot of ice at all . When frig was not working so good bought this one for meats etc. I get food poisoning real easy . We only take for extreme temps high 90's -100's , otherwise we use either of the other 2 . Pat

We love the RTIC 45. Built basically the same as a Yeti, but about half the price. Holds more than a comparable Yeti too. They say it will hold ice for 10 days, although we've not tried it for that long. Good balance of cooling endurance, weight and size. Only drawback is, there's quite a wait for one.

Lets try this again. (I have a hard time posting photos with the Ipad, had to switch to a windows machine). Still need to figure out how to carry a five foot hoop with a twelve foot handle. Scott
