We had a couple of Khaki Campbell hens - they are a domestic breed apparently related to Mallards, and yes, they looked like the photo. Since there's a domestic goose there, a domestic duck makes some sense.

Oh, well, if it is related to mallards, then it should do fine because there are always some mallards over there. And the four domestic Roman geese.

The yellow flowers may be Damianita.

Went down to see big blue herons congregating at the Red River. The Red River is crossed when coming from Oklahoma into our part of Texas and is also right near Lake Tedoma.

Oklahoma/Texas bridge is off in the distance. This photo is taken from a small campground at the Denison Dam.

We are in the general Dallas area, and I also say Oklahoma City, because we are at the Oklahoma border.

This is the Lewisville Lake in a Dallas suburb which has a campground owned by Army Corps but run by the town. It's a huge lake with an Army Corps dam so I can't begin to show it. The town controls a small part of the lake and charges $5 to get into that area, but free for campers.

We had one of the worst sites in the campground which was almost full on a Thursday. Many of the sites are close together but there are others which are bigger and nicer. The facilities there are all very good.

You do not see the electric jack in this photo but I was glad to have it. A nice change.

The lake by car has to be accessed elsewhere.

There were several pairs of mallards around.

And a few egrets and herons.

There is a little swimming beach that had quite a few people but I did not take a photo.

This heron is actually in a little pond with the golf course that is across from the campground.

Platter Flats

We spent a week the middle of March this year at Platter Flats COE campground. We had a great camping site about 10 feet above the lake right on the shoreline. It is one of our favorite COE campgrounds and hardly used during the winter months.

I know Platter Flats well and those sites! And the hosts know us, and elsewhere around Lake Texoma. We pretty well lived at ACE campgrounds there in our Escape while buying our house.

I only want to chance some of those Platter Flats sites because of the possibility of ending up in the water. You know it is one of the many Army Corps campgrounds around Lake Texoma. I recently found that Burns Run East is open all winter. West is our favorite. And we stayed at Juniper a lot at the other end of the lake on the Texas side. This guy was at Juniper. I go there every once in a while. Hosts are great there and at the others.
