Clear waste outlet cap

It's been awhile since I opened a waste cap and had the surprise of liquid pouring out. On the way back to Florida I watched someone in front of us get splashed when his apparently full tubes emptied on him.

I could hear the cussing and the gd kids remarks. Whether it was kids or toilet paper holding the valve open I have no idea. But it reminded me I needed to change the cap to a clear one on our trailer. Valterra makes a clear cap that is perfect for our trailers.
Model T1020CLR waste valve cap.

Another item scratched off the to do list.

Head on home, then suggest your brother-in-law to empty all the tanks before he borrows the camper for the following weekend.

Just ordered one with small hose connection. An ounce of prevention...

Yes, get one of these. An added benefit is that you can use it to partially drain your gray water tank into a bucket or other receptacle; the small hose opening helps regulate the flow. The gray water tank is my constraint while boondocking, so being able to drain it a bit at a time helps extend my stay.

Depending upon your usage of the Black tank, by taking a few buckets of grey water off using a piece of Garden hose and dumping that water into your black tank can give you more time before you really have to dump. In some state parks there are grey water dump stations throughout the campground. This is nice too. In some parks it is acceptable to dump grey water in the woods and there’s usually signage to that effect.

Woodhead Park in Hells Canyon has a gray water dump every 2-3 campsites. That's what gave me the idea.

I think that before my next trip I may buy an oil drain container from an auto parts store. I'd use it to drain a few gallons of gray water at a time and be able to take it to a dump station if necessary.

Yes! Most of the Oregon State Parks have this feature. Depending on the trip, I have an 18 gal portable tank on wheels that I use to drain down my tanks. I take it to the dump station in the back of my truck. Leave the trailer set up. I only bring it if we are planning to stay in one place longer than 4 or 5 days without hook ups.

Are these gray water dumps sealed or open air? I ask cause once in a while the gray smells pretty darn bad. I've pulled into a site or 2 where the previous tenant had dumped their gray right on the ground and it isn't pleasant.

I use this 10 litre collapsible bucket. It is handy to have for lots of things and I find I use it a lot.

I have the collapsible bucket and agree that it is useful; that's what I used at Hells Canyon. But the gray water dump there was just a few yards away from my trailer. I thought the oil change container might hold more and be more transportable, as you can seal it up after the gray water drains into it then take it to a more remote dump station. I'll try one and see. But I'll keep the bucket with me in case it doesn't work out.

Grey dump

When I used one of these in an Ohio State Park it was open at the top without a cap. However it was along the road and not all that near the campsites. There was fresh water nearby so I rinsed my bucket and chased it all with fresh water. Did not smell at all when I used it. The practice of dumping near the campsites is indeed nasty. I’ve witnessed some pretty disappointed tent campers who either set up or started to set up where a previous occupant had disposed of grey water, dish pan water, food scraps etc. I call them occupants because they certainly aren’t campers.
