That actually looks like a 19 to me. Definitely staged like most any commercial. The awning isn’t even deployed properly.

That’s the first thing I thought of too. I often wonder where commercials were produced if the “backdrop” is a classic car show, large public park, hiking trail etc. and it’s not iconic. (Like Devils Tower or the Arch in St Louis) etc.

A few years ago a fellow and his wife or girlfriend camped in among us at the Wine Escape. He had a Catalina stick built trailer. It was just chance that he was there. He could not get over how nice everyone was, even attended the potluck. He had worked for an advertising agency that handled the Chevrolet account on sports themed commercials. He had many fascinating stories on the athletes he’d worked with. Best guy to ever work with in his opinion was Terry Bradshaw.

I own a classic car in the Nashville area and have been asked a few times if I was interested in letting a Country singer use it for a music video shoot. I think there are a lot of scouts out and about looking all the time for certain criteria to use for this kind of stuff. Mine has yet to make it to the big screen however.

While working at a state park we had more than a few commercials filmed there. Nolan Ryan and Elvin Bethea showed up for an Academy Surplus commercial. They maybe had 2 lines each and just couldn’t deliver them right for the “director” and were constantly cutting up and cracking everyone up. It was a 9 hour affair for 30 seconds, but I got a couple autographs and Nolan’s is one that actually might be valuable...not that I’d sell it! Blue Bell ice cream filmed one there and gave the staff free vouchers for about 7-8 half gallons....now THAT was one of our better parties!

Be careful when renting out your collector vehicle(s) or trailer and read the fine print.

Having been on hundreds of movie and tv shoots...many film crew have no idea on how to operate various older vehicles or trailers as is obvious in the deployment of that awning.

A friend of mine rented out his pristine military vehicle collection for a movie. The crew mixed up a solution of contact cement and dirt and smeared it over his entire collection. Every vehicle had to be repainted. The subcontractor that rented his vehicles dissolved the company 2 weeks after shooting and he could not legally get any funds from the main movie production for the repairs.

That is just terrible. If I were to let them use mine, I would definitely be on set to protect my investment.

the paint on a lot of military vehicles is this chemical agent resistant stuff, too, my kid has a M925A2 based Burning Man art car-er-5-ton-6x6.... not something I'd want to have to strip and replace, eeek. they had to use full ventilated with an air supply when they welded on the superstructure frame they built, because the fumes of the chem paint are highly toxic.

I misplaced my air finish nailer, Thought I might have loaned it out and it didn’t come back. I called a couple people who I loaned it to in the past. Nope, didn’t have it. Then I had a new nerve synapse, must have been about 1.2 volts. And I remembered I had changed the container I had it in. Walked out into the garage and immediately spotted the tub. Boy was I happy. So I guess you know, if I’ll panic over a $50 tool, I’m not one to loan, rent, lease whatever, anything of any value. I’ve experienced the movie making, political rallies, car shows in flower beds etc. Lots of folks don’t think as much of something nice as you do. Of course they didn’t earn the money to buy it either.

You've got that right, but on the other hand, I loaned a manual post hole digger and a lawn roller to neighbours on the condition that they not return the tool.

I hired a contractor to build a new wrap around patio cover in my backyard. His truck is broke down and his girlfriend has been bringing him to the jobsite and he has ended up using my ladders, paying for materials delivery, and borrowing some tools. Last week he dropped a 6x6x14 on my deck box. There went some of his profit to fix his pickup truck. He was shocked when he saw how much those big plastic boxes cost. Some lessons are learned the hard way not matter how hard you try.
