I have this one. She will freeze the tank on a hot day. She’s a red hot mama.

Bobbie (and anyone else interested): The power company just took down 3 massive pine trees on my property due to the possibility of them falling on power lines. They learned their lesson from their liability in the fire in Paradise two years ago. Anyway, they chip the branches/needles and leave the trunks where they fall. Anyone who wants pine shavings, bring your swiss army knife and you can have all you want.

skiman, that is a brilliant idea.

Been using fatwood in the fireplace, fire ring out back and every other place where I need to get a fire started the first time.

I find that the Diamond brand Strike A Fire product is an excellent fire starter.

(We put the egg cartons in a pan (cardboard ones of course) and soak the sawdust or shavings with the cooking oil. A bit messy of course, but boy does it work! So yes, we do it ahead of time.

Jim, could you let me know where you buy your multi-use wooden matches? The wooden matches I have used have only been good for a single use and then they don't work well anymore. I would really like to get hundreds of uses out of them as you have described.

I was going to mention the old Duralame trick too.

One winter pre-Escape I bought duraflame logs made especially for some mores. I didn't want a long fire when camping in the winter with my grands.

Just looked for them....Duraflame makes 10 different models of logs, one especially for cooking. Who knew??

The forests are full of trees that when bucked and split do the same. [emoji4]

It is likely at least 1,000 times I have cooked something on a real wood fire. The taste and results are wonderful. [emoji106]

It could be where I'm from, but I know nobody that uses these manmade logs.

Let us not forget two incredibly difficult military conflicts from World War II the initiation of conflict at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and a turning point in the war in Europe, the Ardennes Counteroffensive (Battle of the Bulge) started on Dec 16, 1944. Hats off and our unending respect and gratitude for all service men and women in all branches of the armed forces.

Says the guy that has obviously never experienced Lower Mainland campground firewood I think its a provincial requirement that all firewood is specially treated to remove carbon and then it's soaked in water for a year before distribution. Its suitable for stacking on top of a propane fire to produce a realistic smokey environment. One year we put out a forest fire by dumping provincial campground firewood on it.

When I was in college I was a camp counselor in Southern California one summer. In Washington, starting a fire with 3 matches and no starters or paper was a real challenge, doing it in the rain close to but not quite impossiblr. Our camp in California was so dry that the girls could start a fire by holding one match to a log and we had to eliminate matches for it to be any kind of challenge- and even starting with a flint and steel wasn't very difficult. (And nowadays the challenge is probably not starting a fire.)

I have camped in many BC campgrounds, mostly provincial, but not much near the coast other than on the island. Always found decent wood though, none of the fun stuff you look for. [emoji6][emoji16]

Even had my only cactus fire camping on a Pacific shore in the Baja. Light wood with lots of wee holes in it, but it burned real nice.
