Listen to your dog....

Last night, in preparation for bed and settling the dogs down to go to sleep, our one dog, the largest and older one, named Franklin would not get up on the sofa which is now their bed. He looked at it and back to me but refused. The new little puppy, Frisbee was jumping up and down on the sofa. But Franklin refused to jump up. Well upon further inspection, I found a pair of scissors was wedged in the cushions!! It seems the little puppy had found and carried them to the sofa!! Lesson learned, treat a puppy like a newborn baby and plan ahead for dangerous issues. Scissors are back where they belong now!

Sounds like someones teaching a youngster the old saying "Don't run with sizzors".

With age comes wisdom. No matter the species.

My Lord, that Franklin is a canine Einstein! What an intelligent friend you have there!

Dogs have reasons to act the way they do whether we are savvy enough to decipher that reason is the question.

Totally.

My dog is a 7.5 yo rescue Shepherd/Husky cross from a local community. Maltreated, the SPCA took him away & we brought him home 6 years ago. We've had other dogs, with as varied personalities as people have. But this guy is amazing. I watch him whenever were walking, and his body language 'alert' is significant. He reads me, and I read him ... likely the best communication I've had of all the dogs we've owned (or maybe I've just gotten better at comprehending dog LOL).

I had a German Shorthair Pointer years ago. When I hunted him he was forever going off in the ”wrong” direction. I would yell at him and call him a “Lying Coon Dog”. Then I’d follow him to pheasants he knew were there. He never lied to me. Takes a lot of patience to learn your dog’s behavior. At 7 Jake’s finally got all the puppy out of him.

What’s out that back window Jake? Is it a squirrel?

This always happens in the yard when I leave the trailer door open.

“Good dogs, Good dogs all.” From the movie Togo. One of my favorite all time movie lines.

My dogs are telling me it's time to hit the road! I keep saying, soon after Labor Day. We had a rough year, both of our long-time pups passed away...they were probably some of the most well-traveled dogs in the country, having been back and forth across the country with us many times, in various RV's. Now we have 2 new rescues, ready for adventure...

Had a black lab many years ago. Jenny was the most wonderful dog. She always wanted to be first out the door. We also came to learn she was pushy, could even be vindictive, and ...totally insane.

Lefty

I would be the next to last person to brag or boast that this dog was the smartest, strongest, bravest dog in the Tri-County area, but I believe he was.

Long gone now for 2 years, & missed every day. A swell camper.

I listened to him, and he listened to me, some times.

Our dog Jake is an excellent judge of character. He found Lefty to be friendly. Sincere and well behaved.
They camped together a couple times and Jake still perks up if I refer to Lefty. He wags his stubby little tail and smiles.
