Yes, my friend admitted he got swept up in the moment at the dealership with the purchase without doing a lot of research. I did feel bad for him knowing he's stuck with it now.

And you're also right it pains me to see someone buy something this expensive knowing there are other alternatives out there that may cost more but are much better in the long run. I for one am very happy with my Escape purchase. On to retirement next July.....

To me it would appear the need for safety equipment while building is not mandatory. Not sure what the adhesive is for the flooring, maybe it is non toxic, but no one is wearing a mask. And installing the fiberglass insulation without a dust mask and gloves is crazy. Their lungs and arms will be itching for days.

I built my first trailer when I was still a teenager. I built the side panels etc. the same way they did. Sort of. I glued everything with UF-109 and used screws. Not a single nail or staple in it. Guess I disliked stickies from an early age.

That was pretty interesting. I'm so glad I did my research and was patient! Leaving for Chilly in 3 days to pick up Wild Thing on the 22!

Yes some my friends who buy stick trailers don't understand why I wait so long and pay so much for a small trailer and I don't understand why they buy the trailers they buy.

Some friends of mine just bought a new trailer, I told them to get an Escape, but they didn't want to wait the 6 or 8 months. So they bought a R-pod. I hope they don't have too many problems with it

I just sold my r-pod in preparation to get an Escape in November. I can report that the r-pod is better made than some of the other stickie brands. It uses a tubular metal frame instead of a wood frame. And the roof is a single sheet of fiberglass from front bumper to rear bumper. So, the "design" is better, making for a more solid unit, perhaps less leaks and holds together better over time. It still, however, would suffer from these "workmanship" issues because they are cranking them out as fast as possible.

We have shown our " Molded Fiberglass Trailer" to numerous people and get 5 basic responses

1) It's really cute
2) It's so small , how do you all fit ?
3) OH! It actually has a bathroom and microwave.
4) Who's the local dealer ? You mean you have to drive all the way out there ?
5) Boy, That's really expensive , I was thinking half as much.

Fiberglass trailers come in limited sizes, limited layouts and with limited options that don't fit many people's idea of a travel trailer
I am not KNOCKING ESCAPE OR THEIR OWNER'S but if you want a larger wider trailer with Slide outs then FG isn't the road to follow,
We have many friends who have made wonderful memories in their 32 or 34 or 36 ft stickie without regret.

I've tried to sell my friends and others on the virtues of a molded fiberglass trailer but so far none of them are buying the sales pitch . They just don't want a small compact trailer with a wet bath and a crawl over bed !

Yes, they aren't for everybody, that is for sure. I'm just happy that our needs were a match for what Escape offers and we could downsize without a significant impact, plus not have a maintenance headache after a few months/years.

With R-Pod's running about half the cost of an Escape and with instant availability, I could see that some people would not find the same value in spending that much more.

This same line of thought that you can instantly get a similar sized trailer for not much more than half the cost is reflected in those that see they can get twice the size of trailer instantly for about the same cost. This thinking often gets them carried away and they go even bigger feeling they get even more value as they go bigger.

This is their money, so I don't deny them anything for spending it as they wish. For us, it is more about the camping style afforded by the smaller trailer, combined with the quality of the build. The places we prefer to camp differ from those that buy these other units, as some just would not fit, and the smaller ones suffer more wear than a moulded fibreglass trailer would.

Another video from a couple of years ago. I've heard that there isn't a lot of difference in quality in the RV industry, but it seems like there must be some manufacturers who pay more attention to these details. We were starting to look at Lance to see if they might be in that category, however, the upfront cost difference was minimal and much less than some of the other options out there.

Caveat Emptor applies here!

I was just on the Casita Facebook group. Someone is right now ordering a 17' Casita.. with "all the bells and whistles." THEN, they'll go to Little House Customs and have modifications done to the tune of several more thousand dollars. They expect to spend over $25,000 by time they're done.

Currently, a US buyer can get a well-appointed 17B Escape Trailer for less than $23,000. AND, it's a better built trailer than Casita too. Wish I could tell them, but the admins forbid discussing any other brand in that group.
