I also went up to Thunder Bay a couple of times. Not far. Bought a unique Native basket. That is definitely Native American or First Nations country.
Should not miss the lodge! It may still be up for sale if you have $3.5m handy. No telling how it may change soon. A real gem.

Had a wonderful Summer trip staying at the Canadian, Ontario, and Municipal camping parks North of Lake Superior and hiking to all the waterfalls about 3 years ago, from the Michigan border to Minnesota and back. One of the great, almost unspoiled areas left on the continent. I highly recommend it.

About half way around the lake, highway 17 West was closed due to a murder investigation. I believe we were in Marathon that day. If you look at the map you'll see we had no option but to stay in town that night. Turns out they have a knock down, drag out, gorgeous municipal RV park and it just added one more thrill to the trip.

Walt - you hit upon one of the great things about the Circle Tour - all the unexpected things you find along the way. Places like the Quimet Canyon, that I had never even heard of, popped up everywhere along the route.
There is a great free online guide with maps here: CircleTour2016 Lots of ads, but worth a look see for anyone at all interested. Mary and I try to get up to Lake Superior at least once every year, it is a truly amazing body of water - more accurately described as an inland sea than a lake.
