Moving to Idaho?

Hi all. I have an opportunity to relocate to Idaho; the Pocatello/Idaho Falls area. If you have any experience out there, I would be interested in knowing how you like living out there. Please PM me so as not to clutter the forum.

Thanks
Gino

Truly a beautiful state, but never been to Pocatello.

This person on this site is selling an Escape in Idaho Falls. You might ask them.

We've been looking at houses and doing other research. Believe it or not, the cost of living in the Pocatello/Idaho Falls area appears to be less than Albuquerque, NM. We were expecting the opposite.

Good for you! The winters are harsh but there’s a nice ski area near hoky poky as well as near driggs. You will be so close to YNP & Tetons.

Don’t know so much about Pocatello. Twin Falls seemed nice. You are close to the Sawtooths. Snake river close by, closer to Boise. Of course, Pocatello is closer to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Nice area overall.

Moving to idaho

We’ve lived in Idaho for 53 years. Your Escape should get a great deal of use. If you are looking where to choose between IF and Pocatello, I’d choose IF. Why? Closer to outdoor activities in my mind. Both have things going for them so it’s a roll of the dice what you like. You won’t go wrong in either place.

The OP mentioned the Pocatello/Idaho Falls area, not Twin Falls. Idaho Falls is north of Pocatello and therefore closer to YNP and the Tetons. It's quite a ways away from Boise and the Sawtooths. The Snake River flows right through downtown Idaho Falls. Twin Falls is more in the south central part of Idaho. Sorry, the confusion is understandable!! Just trying to provide accurate information here

Agree! Though McCall and Ketchum are the relative oases in an otherwise sea of "Red". Nice outdoor 'Escape' if you're prepared for the blue->red transition!

McCall and Ketchum, not being a fan of smug arrogance I now know where to avoid.
Thank you for the travel advice…

You’re welcome! With the recent surge of wealthy part and full time residents, the greater McCall area seems to increasingly experience some of that. But you’ll be missing Ponderosa State Park, a camping jewel in a relatively centrist alpine community. Happy trails!

Meh. Linda and I don't let little stuff like that bother us.

Soultrek, yes!! Ponderosa Park is awesome, as is the surrounding high country, wilderness, lakes, and incredible rivers. If folks want to assume McCall is overrun with "smug arrogance" and therefore avoid it, I'm not about to argue with them

Maybe it's just me but why mention McCall or Ketchum since that's not where the OP has an opportunity to move to.

Ketchum is 2 1/2 hrs away and McCall is over 6.

Let's drop the politics bombs for effect please. This forum is not about that crap!

I agree with WillyB. Let his post be the warning.

I also agree with those who recommend Ponderosa State Park. A truly lovely spot where we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
