I know Dave I have looked and looked . I have already painted the one on the trailer twice , it needs it again .What is up with America not getting better RV's items ? I wonder if I could order from Airstream ? I found a partial aluminum one on e-trailer . The steps are aluminum but the rest is steel . Pat

Those are neat windows . Once I was able to get the white battery box and door from Lance for my motorhome . A Lance dealer ordered it for me , I paid and went to I think it was the factory in Lancaster and picked up . You never know . Pat

Pat, I understand many of these components are available through eBay UK.
I am sure it will be costly due to shipping, taxes perhaps, etc. Not a fun way to get better components.
Earlier this year, I bought my Redarc DC to DC step up charger directly from the Australian manufacturer. Excellent service before and after purchase, great tech support and free shipping. In this case I could not find such a product in the States and lucked out with the Aussies.

Ian Giles has a really neato story on one of his sites. Worth a read: History of the Boler - Boler-Camping

I viewed the video and wasn't particularly impressed. When we first started considering a travel trailer, molded fiberglass wasn't even on our radar, mostly because we didn't really understand that they existed. Airstream, naturally, was one of the first brands I looked at because of their reputation built over what, 70-80 years? But Airstream came off our list pretty quickly due to it's loony tunes pricing coupled with the very widespread assertion uncovered in my research that Airstream quality basically went in the toilet after Thor took over. Sadly, the same thing will likely happen to Escape if Reace & Tammy ever decide to cash out.

Oh, Donna, that is a big deal for you! You get to go on a big big trip. That should be wonderful. You will no doubt see plenty on the way.
Greg, somehow this went from Airstreams to Bolers but you know how that goes.

Not so sure about that since they are in Canada. Could be bought by Canadians and not one of our big conglomerates.

While we're on the subject of non-Escape RVs, is there a manufacturer of fifth-wheel trailers with slideouts that has a reputation for good quality, a la Escape for fiberglass trailers or Lazy Daze for Class C motorhomes? Asking for a friend.

You could suggest that he or she read up on the Escapees forum, rvnetwork, as they cover that and everything related.

That's a pretty good resource, thanks. I'm just curious about them because they seem to be quite popular and I have no knowledge of the different brands.

Thor Industries was formed by to buy RV manufacturers. The owners had started with another trailer company, created Thor to acquire Airstream in 1980, and bought General Coach two years later, in 1982 ... their next addition. General Coach was a British Columbia company, and was still manufacturing well-regarded Corsair trailers (we bought one) in Oliver when I toured their factory about 15 years ago. I don't think Thor cares in which country within the North American market a company is located.
Thor's acquisitions have generally been RV manufacturers which are struggling financially, but seen by Thompson and Orthwein as having value; Airstream was going under when they saved it. Airstream, in turn, acquired their aluminum trailer design by acquiring the failing Bowlus. My guess is that Escape Trailer Industries will never be a target for Thor to acquire, because it won't be broke.

Basically same for us with Airstream . Enjoyed looking at the design elements of the new trailer but those fellows ,could of done without in the video . Noticed a lot of filaform corrosion on the new Airstreams that don't see on older ones . Price keep going up and Quality going down changed our minds . Pat

Painted ours twice too, last year's coat being POR-15, it's already rusted yet again.

Wow, that is good to know. POR-15 is supposed to be impervious.
