Hi: padlin... I painted our step for the 1st. time. I used a spray can of "Harbor Freight Rust Reformer" 1st. Then a spray of matte black store brand metal paint. Only time will tell how soon the rust reappears. Alf

I just read an article over the weekend with an interview of the the owner of BigFoot, and he said he is determined to make a slideout for the 2500 truck camper series. I would assume that if he is going to do that to the truck camper, the travel trailers would be included as well. He said he does not have a timeframe for it.

Probably due to it being a sliding step, kind of beats itself up. It's also tough to sand off the old rust.

I've mentioned this stuff in a previous thread. Industrial rust converter that works well. Top coat with Rust-oleum or similar. Might be an option. Available through Amazon.

I know . With all the RV's being sold and Airstream and the unmentionable O using aluminum steps , I wish someone would start making or supplying aluminum steps . Pat

Good product but I think it just gets rubbed off from step sliding in and out . Pat

As far as all aluminum steps, these are the only ones I've seen, made by Brophy. I think they may be too tall however for an Escape, and then there's the issue with mounting to the existing frame.

What Jim said. First hailstorm that comes along here in Texas (and believe it or not that's been known to happen), watching the look of sheer terror on the Airstream owners faces is quite entertaining.

We had a really bad one - like once in a lifetime bad - in April of 2016. My truck was damaged and is just now in the shop for a new hood. The RV storage facility where I park my trailer is mostly open storage. The vast majority of the RVs parked there are uncovered. There are a total of 2 fiberglass trailers stored there uncovered, and over a hundred stickies.

Basically every sticky sustained heavy damage, and some were written off. Two Airstreams looked like a bomb had gone off. The two fiberglass trailers I saw were just fine, except for a broken roof vent cover on one of them.

But the Airstreams did have nice bathrooms.

I'd suggest RV manufacturers keep an eye on what's happening with Harley Davidson. It appears the Baby Boom market is fairly well saturated (sales down), and younger generations are too busy raising a family to make up the difference (sales not going up) or are just more into their various smart devices than motorcycles. Granted, annual sales are still in the 100's of thousands. Will RV sales soon follow the same trends? It will be interesting to follow....

We had a great trip to Nova Scotia this fall. We briefly met a Canadian couple in Lunenburg, and they asked us where we're from. "Ohio" we said. They said they were from BC. We said something like "Oh, we picked up our camper at the Escape factory in BC!" They said something like "Oh, we picked up our camper at the Airstream factory in Ohio!" To each his own, I guess.

I guess Winnebago sees a market.

"Winnebago Coach Lines Aiming at Younger RVer"
"....motivation to update the storied brand to better compete within the industry and to recruit new consumers to RVs, which traditionally have appealed primarily to audiences 55 and above.

Already, orders are backing up for some of the new models, said Ron Lichtsinn, owner of Lichtsinn RV, Forest City’s Winnebago dealer. Demand has been particularly strong for Winnebago’s new four-wheel drive motorhome, called the Revel. It’s designed for campers who want to get off the main drags and experience nature up close.
“We just can’t get our hands on enough of these,” Lichtsinn said. “It’s not going to be a model that every dealer wants to carry because they’re not going to understand the activities that these will be used for. But it’s such a unique model that can be used for so many different things.”
