Our Favourite Canadian

DW and I recently attended a taping of Jeopardy in Culver City, Calif. and were able to meet our favourite Canadian. We, and Alex's cutout, are best buddies now!

That'd be fun. But I'd probably get thrown out for saying the answers out loud.

Actually I'm not sure Alex is still Canadian, he might have gone over to the dark side. And it sounds like he's retiring in 2020. Too bad, I don't think that it'd be quite the same show without him.

Ron
Ron, shouting out the answers was one of our concerns too but since we knew so few of them, it wasn't really a problem.

During the periods where commercials are broadcast, Alex would come to the end of the stage close to the studio audience and answer questions. One person asked him if he still had Canadian citizenship and, you are right, he gave it up. I was able to ask him a question as well so I guess I can say I talked with him.

A nicer, more down-to-earth man I don't think you'll ever meet! What really surprised me was his obvious enjoyment of working around the house with his hands as he spent quite a bit of time telling the audience what projects he's currently working on. My kind of fellow!

I agree with you as I will probably stop watching when he retires. His contract expires in 2020, as you indicated, and it sounds like he may retire then.

That cardboard cut-out looks almost real. Except for the dustpan he's standing in.?

A friend of mine was on "Jeopardy" a few years ago. I didn't get to see the game, but he told me that he kept getting tripped up by the signaling device and wasn't able to do well. He described Alex's demeanor as "all business", cut and dried, not friendly at all. But after the game Alex loosened up to have the little chat session that you see at the end of the show. But my friend was so stunned by the event that had just transpired so he could only answer questions in monosyllables.

I noticed as I was walking past it, the eyes followed me. Kinda creepy but cool!

I think the "dustpan" is holding him up.

Hard to know exactly how he interacted with the contestants from our vantage point but guess we'll find out later this year. He did take individual photos with all the contestants at one point in the taping. I can say Alex was pretty personable with the audience, telling stories, cracking jokes, etc.

The Jeopardy staff were very friendly also but had businesslike efficiency. They've been working together a long time and have the process down pat. We were in studio for about two hours and witnessed three show tapings. The tapings will air Oct 1, 2, and 3. We'll be watching those dates for sure!

Contestants for $200 please, Alex.

Answer: So shocked or surprised as to be unable to speak.

Some sad news. Alex just announced he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He says he's going to fight it and I pray he wins.

Isn't he the guy who flogs questionable life insurance policies to old people on TV for pennies a day?
