Sounds like an old Flip Wilson joke, he always had good ones with the play on words ending....

Does redd up your room ring a bell with you? That was the second time my mother told me and she was no joke. Dad thought once was adequate. In 3rd. grade on my way to the bus stop an old man with an attitude looked at me, reached into his pocket and said he was going to give me "a tin ear". I had no idea what that meant but I knew it was't good so I hightailed it as fast as my little legs could go. 65 years later it still seems like yesterday. Today I would need therapy ?

When I was a young boy my Grandmother would tell me “ I was as cute as a bugs ear”
Grandma was a notorious liar !

Tin foil - Ice box are terms I learned from my Dad and I still use today

We did not have plastic wrap, we used waxed paper for our sandwiches. A lot better for the environment also. Grocery store paper bags were cut up and we made book covers for our school books for protection. In addition the covers would display our favorite art or girlfriends name(s)....my mom made a denim book bag to carry my books to/from school, no backpacks back then.

I remember as a child my Dad and I would go to 5:00 AM Sunday Mass at St Mary’s Home
When I was young I didn’t object to getting up early on Sunday but as I got older I wasn’t so thrilled with the concept . So I asked my Dad why we went to church so early and he gave me a perfectly logical answer “ We go to church early so we can be at the bakery when the doors open and the bakery will still be warm , fresh and we can have our choice of anything in the bakery . When we got home it was my job to carefully untie the string on the bakery box
(No cutting that wasted string ) and add it to the roll of used string in the drawer
The ball of string sat right next to a stack of used tin foil that we had carefully washed and folded.
When I watch my Grandkids take a plate of food , eat a couple of bites and then without any thought throw the food in the trash , something in the back of my mind says it’s a good thing my Dad is not alive to see this.

But your kids are raising your grandkids, what happened, generation skipping? As much as we dislike what we see today, we are partly responsible.....we tried too hard giving our children things we did not have. As a result it came back to bite us....
