Nice looking dogs. How old is Jake? Trying to figure out who was Jake the First. Our Jake is 67. Just kidding, he’ll be six in August.

maggie the old lady ("hey, I'm ready, lets GO!")

maggie chilling after a long hard day visting folks at the King City FG Rally...

RIP 2006-2019, she was the best dog we ever had... cancer got her at 12 yrs of age.

John, it is heartbreaking when they go. It is obvious that Maggie had a wonderful life with your family.

This is Gizmo, a wonderful little rescue. He died in December. Loved to go on our travel adventures. Sure do miss him.

We lost our beloved Franklin in 2019, he was 15 years old. Sorry for your loss John....... best thing to do is rescue another one, we got another dog last year only because his name was.....wait for it...Franklin.

This is Lacey, a 44# pound puppy who was HBC (hit by car) and had surgery, plus many hours and dollars of physical therapy. She's a trip, though. Probably the smartest dog we've ever had (despite her former lack of respect for cars). Definitely the most talkative.

We have been 'dogsitting' our son's 7-8 yr old McNabb border collie mix while he's working in the UK. Seamus is fixated on light reflections on the ceiling, he'll spend hours running around and barking at them. He's deaf which makes handling him extra challenging. thankfully he's slowed down a lot since we had him when he was 6 months to 1 yr old while our kid worked a summer science job at a national park.

Here's Maggie and Seamus, in 2013....

p.s. I think Seamus is named after the Pink Floyd song...

Ah-Hah, Jake the First is the black dog from Tallahassee. He turned seven on December 17th. Name influenced by, but not directly for, Jake Spoon in Lonesome Dove. There's rarely been a Western worth its salt without a Jake in it.

After we got Jake we got a new next door neighbor with a black lab. We soon learned he was named Jake so to keep them straight when we are discussing dogs we named him Black Jake. One day a couple of the kids were down here to see our dog and to pet his ears. In the conversation one of the kids said “Boy, my dad was mad when he found out your dog was named Jake. I’m pretty blunt so I just said, “Maybe he should have checked on dog names in the neighborhood before he bought your house.” He doesn’t talk to me before or since so no big deal. One of my good friends has the last name Jacobsen. Everybody calls him Jake. For a few times when we were camped together he thought I was being a little demanding when I was calling our dog by saying “Jake get your butt over here!” I often call our dog “Son”. My real son was just here for a bit. I must have got him and Jake the dog mixes up about 10 times.

I don't have grandkids to talk about (or kids for that matter) so you better be careful asking about our dog...

This is Cobb.
He was born with lots of energy, and a mischievous streak a mile wide (as a pup he smashed out a car window to get to the lake).
It only took 6 years for him to settle down a little.

Hummmm.

Sounds like Cobb likes water, to produce the effort to bust out a car window and break away. Really, really likes water. Glad he settled down some.
